gnome is a session manager, not a window m
it seems I'm not capable to get me some desktop icons ... the icon box stores only the
minimized applications
I want a nice iconbar like gnome/kde have - is it possible or do I have to change the
wm ?

You can always run Gnome on top of Enlightenment. A lot of people seem
to use that solution and are happy with it.
