newsyslog.conf wrong count of archive logs

I'm using newsyslog (FreeBSD 6.0-RELEASE-p6) to manage Apache's monthly log files. The relevant /etc/newsyslog.conf entry is # logfilename [owner:group]mode count size when flags [/pid_file] [sig_num] /var/log/httpd/*log root:wheel 644 2 *$M1D3 GB

count Specify the maximum number of archive files which may exist. This does not consider the current log file. From what i see on a running system, count is the maximum number of the archive log: a count of 2 makes archives .0, .1 and .2 Olivier
