ruby upgrade

2005-03-01 Thread Aaron Sloan
Good morning,
I'm having some troubles getting started on how to
search the ports I have installed who have ruby as a dependency so
I can upgrade them. What syntax do I need for searching of which file?
I have looked at the syntax from the perl portupgrade and I'm scared... : )
portupgrade -f `(pkg_info -R perl-5\* |tail +4; \
   find /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.[68].[1245] -type f -print0 \
   | xargs -0 pkg_which -fv | sed -e '/: ?/d' -e 's/.*: //')|sort -u`
Just a pinch above my head.
Help would be appreciated.
I have RTFM but I still need a little direction.
Thanks!
Aaron

Fan speed control on compaq DL380 server

2005-03-30 Thread Aaron Sloan
Hi,
I'm having some problems finding good information on how to or if it is
available
to control the fan speed on Proliant servers. I have found some links,
but they
don't seem to lead to an answer.
I have installed /sysutils/freeipmi
Is this what I should be using? I couldn't find a HCL for it.
I'm eating up a lot of time searching.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Aaron

cmpq dl380 server. ipmi bmc question

2005-04-08 Thread Aaron Sloan
Hello guys and gals,

Does system fan control on a Compaq DL380 ,first edition, have any support?
Sounds like a jet at idle in the machine room.
I have looked through the acpi and port recomendations I have come
across via google and I'm not having any luck at all. I believe it is supported in Linux
but I don't know how. I can't say I'm any hardware wizard on this kind of thing.

Update: I installed freeipmi and ipmitool and I'm not having any luck with
these apps.
The cli commands are apparently over my head because I haven't been able to get
it to work and now my head hurts.
Am I barking up the right tree or just peeing on it?
HP was not terribly helpful. All the recent ROMpaks have been installed.
Thanks,
Aaron

Hello guys and gals,

Does system fan control on a Compaq DL380 ,first edition, have any
support? Sounds like a jet at idle in the machine room.

My DL380 is loud too. But, if it makes you feel any better, you should
hear my DL580, it's deafening.

Aaron, are you sure that you're supposed to be able to adjust the fan speed
on the 380 from within the OS?

That's the real question

The reason that I ask, is that the 330's and 350's have a temp sensor
that isn't detected until during post, so there's a few seconds on
them that the fans run full on. I'm just curious because if the 380's
are set up the same, you may have a faulty sensor.

My DL380 is very loud too.

There are no support to fan control on first generation of DL/ML
   Compaq Servers.
The control is made by software (M$, Linux and others supported SO)
   wich control the fan speed.
On linux it is implemented as a kernel module and a daemon (no source
available for both) so i can't solve this.
   Luiz
I got an anwer from someone in the know. I think I'm just going to
find a different solution to the problem.
HP isn't excited about releasing the source code so I think I'll just
idle the fan with my own hardware based control.
Thermostat and a relay. I haven't looked over the wiring of the fan
in detail yet but it isn't just 2 or 3 wires.
   Maybe I should steal the guts out of a 330 or 350? : )
   Thanks,
   Aaron

openoffice

2003-10-09 Thread Aaron Sloan
Hello gang,

I'm trying to build openoffice or openoffice-devel from ports.
CVS, portupgrade etc...completed. says there is a checksum mismatch with the OO
source and stop
4.8 stable. It has been broken for about a week and a half.
Am I correct in saying the 2 ports are broken because of the checksum problem? I'm
not really interested in using NO_CHECKSUM=YES
I also removed /usr/ports/editors/openoffice and openoffice-devel and ran CVS again
with the same results.
Was my troubleshooting ok?

Tanks peeps!

The problem doesn't seem to be date-related but an error message that is
included in what you pasted:

CPUTYPE global should be set with ?=.

Does your /etc/make.conf file set CPUTYPE unconditionally with something
like this:

CPUTYPE=pentium4

?

Here is my make.conf file after I adjusted the cuptype to i686.
I have a P4.

CPUTYPE?=i686

I'm a little confused...
Can someone give me a hint towards debugging the LC returned non-zero

make x LC_ALL=C: command not found.

2005-04-26 Thread Aaron Sloan
Hello,
step 1. I cvsup, rebuilt and installed world and generic kernel.
Mergemastered just like I always do.
I followed the handbook to the letter and this certainly isn't my first
time.
5.4 stable.

I customized my kernel and went to build it.
make buildkernel KERNCONF=XX
I get the following error.
LC_ALL=C: command not found.
"Makefile", line 155 warning: "LC_ALL=C date" returned non-zero status
MAKEFLAGS=: Command not found.
"Makefile.inc1" line 116: warning "MAKEFLAGS= CPUTYPE=dummy make -f
/dev/null -m
/usr/src/share/mk -V CPUTPE" returned non-zero status
"Makefile.inc1", line 118: CPUTYPE globaal should be set with ?=.
  error code 1.

I did monkey with make.conf before step 1.
I added...
CPUTYPE?=i686
CFLAGS= -O -pipe
Make now fails to the above error on every thing.
I'm not certain what I did to break it but I'm sure it has my name all
over it.

Thanks,
Aaron

problems starting apache13-modssl

2004-10-29 Thread Aaron Sloan
hello,

I'm trying to get apache13-modssl running and I can't seem to accomplish
it. ps -aux after reboot gives me a an entry of "readproctitle service
errors."
How does one do this or where do I look?

I'm running 4.10.

Thanks,

Aaron

X freezes problem

2004-02-20 Thread Aaron Sloan
Hello.

Got a little problem figuring out what is causing my puter to lock up hard. Running
4.9 with the latest cvs and ports upgraded except a broken openoffice portupgrade.. I
will be working in KDE 3.2 with gxine running and sylpheed-claws. The screen saver
kicks in and runs fine for awhile, then the puter locks up hard and I have to reset. I
cannot ctrl-alt-backspace or ctrl-esc or even ctrl-alt-delete to bring it back around.
What log files should I be looking in to find a possible cause to this? It has just
started doing this after the gettext port problem which I seemed to have fixed with
help off this list.
Running an ATI Radeon card in case that helps...?

Thanks,
Aaron

Hi Lowell,

I have to work on being a bit more verbose. The day after I posted the problem the
maintainer patched it and installed fine after that. I am running 4.9 and I haven't
explored the make.conf yet, not active.
You can view my OS, version, and mail client in my mail header as well. I guess I must
use that more than others. Of course the question doesn't have to apply to puter I'm
using. Thank you for taking the time to answer me though, appreciate it.

Sorry I can't help..
I'm curious if you tried sophos support?
I'm going to be doing the same in the next few months and would be interested on what
you find out.
