I turned off JS on my browsers for several years and avoided most popup/web issues that people had. Nowadays, I can leave it on because Firefox plus some plugins do a good job of blocking most of the crap and because it doesn't destabilize the browser like it once used to. So what's the deal with Flash? Occasionally, I will get a link on YouTube/Google Video that looks interesting, but for the most part, I've ignored them. Over the years, I have occasionally tried the mozilla flash plugin, but that has always crashed my browser within the first 10 minutes of use. So for those of you using FreeBSD 7, what is the current state of Flash? Can it be used regularly? Is it ready for the BSD desktop? Caveats? Comments? Advice? So far I haven't had any major problems with linux-flash7 on my native firefox using nspluginwrapper. Sometimes I get the sound off sync but I can survive. It's the 9 that crashes and in my opinion should be removed from the ports collection. My system was updated yesterday and I'm trying to resolve the issues that arose from the updating. I can't update my system everyday I just don't have time for it. If you don't want to rebuild the stuff, just add libicui18n.so.36libicui18n.so to your /etc/libmap.conf file. This solution works if no functions have been removed from the library interface, which only very rarely happens. I just ran pkg_libchk -m piped to a file but looks pretty confusing, is there a way to get only the output for the lines containing /usr/local/lib/libicui18n.so.38? I can reccomend you the -q option, which will give you a very clean output simply listing all the packages that have problems. Without the -q option the program shows its status, which is not well readable in a file, because it doesn't use \n but \r. That you get output with the -m/--mean flag, but not without means that the false positive detection is erroneous. For the time being I'd recommend you to use the libmap.conf solution. Later this day I will add some debugging functionality to the script and send that version to you, if you are willing to spend your time helping me finding this problem. Well I'm glad to say that the output problem was just a minor problem, the cat and grep worked fine when sending the output to the terminal and I just copied it and pasted it into gedit. And indeed pkg_libchk is by far the best solution, if I was to update every package that depended on icu I would have to update 239 packages which discouraged me right away, by running pkg_libchk the amount of packages to be updated was reduced to 71, wrote a quick script and left it running overnight and those packages got updated and by god I don't have any more problems with libicui18n.so.38. Nice little tool. One more question. I see that there is no man page for pkg_libchk, how do I find out more about its options and switches? This solution works if no functions have been removed from the library interface, which only very rarely happens. ___ freebsd-questions@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] I just ran pkg_libchk -m piped to a file but looks pretty confusing, is there a way to get only the output for the lines containing /usr/local/lib/libicui18n.so.38? ___ freebsd-questions@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
libicui18n.so.36 not found, required by evolution
Running FBSD 6.3 and after updating the ports where icu was one of the ports to be updated I'm getting the libexec/ld-elf.so.1: Shared object libicui18n.so.36 not found, required by evolution error, I can see that the new version of icu installed libicui18n.so.38. Now when you restart kde it no longer starts compiz automatically and you will get all the window borders and you are able to save the settings using ccsm. Which is not the case when running gnome. Once you run these commands, compiz will work normally just like in KDE but it won't let you save any settings, another words if you run ccsm it won't let you select or unselect any plugins. Compiz command might be a little different for gnome. Gnome will also complain if you run these commands without installing /usr/ports/x11-themes/ubuntulooks first, once you install this it will stop complainning. I will try to find out why I can't use ccsm and if I find out I will let you know. I don't know about KDE, but I am using compiz-fusion (manually) in gnome without having installed ubuntulooks. Thanks for your investigation and feedback. If you come up with a complete set of settings, I will update the article. The only way to fix gnome and get the settings to save was to delete the user and recreate it again. I found out what causes compiz to act weird like this is when you try to run compiz with different options than the ones you gave me. If that happens than you have to recreate the user account. Deleting the .config directory is not enough, don't know why. Do not forget to update your article by adding the at the end of the compiz and emerald commands. If they get run without sign at the end, compiz will start acting weird on you. Can't connect to my wireless network
I'm running FreeBSD 6.1 Release and after installing a CNet CWP-854 pci wireless nic and running into some problems with the ral driver I was able to fix that but now I can't connect to my wireless network. If I run these commands one at a time: # ifconfig ral0 inet 192.168.1.42 netmask 0xff00 ssid My-Network or # ifconfig ral0 inet DHCP ssid My-Network Nothing happens and if I check it with: # ifconfig ral0 I get this: ral0: flags=8803UP,BROADCAST,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST mtu 1500 inet6 fe80::ff:fe00:700%ral0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1 ether 02:00:00:00:07:00 media: IEEE 802.11 Wireless Ethernet autoselect status: no carrier ssid My-Network channel 1 authmode OPEN privacy OFF txpowmax 100 protmode CTS status says no carrier I also notice channel 1 when I'm using channel 6 but I even tried to add the channel to the ifconfig command and still didn't work. Also where is says ether, I'm assuming this is the MAC address, is not the right mac address for my wireless card, it should be 00-08-A1-A4-E0-EC. Right now I'm running a complete open network just to test this which later on I will use the Access list feature in my router which should not effect it. ___ freebsd-questions@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: CUPS, one more try
I had just fixed it! It looks like it's printing fine now, the only thing I had not done was to uninstall everything that had to do with printing, so I uninstalled apsfilter, CUPS, LPRng and hplip then reinstalled cups and hplip only and it worked. It looks like LPRng and apsfilter conflicts with cups or I think it overwrites bin files like lp, lpr etc, I know that LPRng puts lp, lpr on the same directory as cups, pretty sure that caused the problem. Help with Apsfilter and HP 842c
I'm running FreeBSD 5.4 and my printer used to print perfectly until I did a fresh install because had to change hard drives, now I can't get my printer to print using apsfilter. Everytime I print the printer starts feeding the paper and to print and then it just hangs and sometimes it turns off. I've checked the error logs and all it tells me is this: Oct 29 11:41:58 ecerejo hpijs: unable to write to output, fd=6, count=4096: m Your help would be appreciated. Thank you. ___ Promoção Yahoo! Apsfilter problem
Since my FBSD5.4 reinstallation I can't get my HP Deskjet 842c to print. I didn't have any problems with it before I configured it exactly the way it was before and now I start printing it starts feeding the first sheet and when it starts printing the first line it just shuts down my printer. Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm running the latest version of apsfilter. EJC www.only7bucks.com ___ Promoção Yahoo! Re: Nothing works
First you should stop with this kind of sarcasm, I knew very little about FreeBSD when I first started and today I have no problems configuring it the way I want it yet yo claim to be familiar with unix and you are having such a nightmare! Something is wrong! You need to do some reading, not because it's FreeBSD but because it's freaking unix, anyone would have to do the same with linux or any other unix flavor. You bought the wrong book, that book is not for you, you should of gone with The Complete FreeBSD (the latest one) or FreeBSD: An Open-Source Operating System for Your Personal Computer if it has been updated to 5x. I'm assuming you were able to install freebsd since you've tried to install some ports and couldn't, so the reason it couldn't it's because you're not connected to the internet, when you run make it tries to download the source code automatically and because it can't it fails, no code no candy! Install from packages instead, you should have most of them on CD. --- Timothy McLouth [EMAIL PROTECTED] escreveu: First i tried to make my own installation cd(s) from the instructions given, they did not work so I e-mailed for answers got two different answers neither of which worked so i bought the installation cd(s) ver 5.4...I downloaded the manual which is of little or no use due to variations in installation methods described in the manual and what is actually shown on screen...the ports collection came with it...when i use the make install command it tries to access the internet..then i get a message saying, it couldnt fetch,... try manually... error 1...what is the problem i would really like to use this operating system...I also bought a book for $47 which is useless, the title is misleading...The design and implementation of FreeBSD is of no use unless you want to know what the processor is doing from start to endwhat a waste of money..I am familiar with unix and still have my unix book from college, in addition i have a bachelors of science in computer information systems...Im begining to believe that this is all BS unless i get some straight answers... __ Do You Yahoo!?
