Waht's wrong and how to remedy?
I found that portugrade was trying to upgrade qt4-rcc or moc on my
machines before it upgraded their only dependency, qt4-qmake. I updated
that and then everything worked just fine.

I just cvsuped and did a buildworld and a buildkernel. The kernel compiled
without a problem. So, this means that you have probably modified your kernel
config file until it doesn't work. Start over with GENERIC and leave the
comment on udbp.

seemed to go by-by. I brought the recovery system up todate and loaded
the kernel and world on the sick system. After the upgrade, I had no
more problems. I remounted the ../src and ../obj from the sick machine
and went on with business.

If I am not mistaken, quanta is installed from kdewebdev. I looked
around and couldn't see what dependancy installed it. I looked at the
Makefile and you see
BUILD_DEPENDS= cvsservice:${PORTSDIR}/devel/kdesdk3
I would force upgrade kdesdk.

Touch isn't needed in a good installworld. This usually means your
system date is seriously off. If you use local clock in your cmos, you
need to adjkerntz -i when you boot to single user.

Since you are using RFC1918 IP addresses, you probably should turn on
natd. It is much easier if the switch is right after your DSL because
then, you don't need B to be a gateway and you don't need to run ipfw
to get natd.
