what if I don't compile FreeBSD4 into the FreeBSD5 kernel?
do I wind up with problems in the ports??
TIA

I thought I read in the CURRENT docs somewhere that pf was going to be
the default packet filter. Was I hallucinating? Anyone seen it?
Also anyone using pf on FreeBSD 5.x?
Is it fully implemented? is it as solid as ipfilter?
I have never used ipfw or ipfw2 so please don't refer to them
Anyone here use dspam? I posted to the dspam maillist but apparen;ty
noone is lurking there today.
FreeBSD 5.2.1
maildrop 1.6.3
dspam 2.10.6
I had maildrop delivering fine. Then I built dspam from the ports and
modified postfix main.cf
to read:
mailbox_command = /usr/local/bin/dspam --user
I am trying to learn unix. I need a recommendation for a good beginers book
(eg: Unix for dummies)

you may want to take a look at the file /etc/hosts.allow

FreeBSD 5.2.1
I am using the folowing to backup saturday
tar -jcf etc.bz2 /etc /usr/local/etc
in /bak/saturday.
I would like to do an incremental on monday (et al) in /bak/monday (et al)
tar -cf etc.bz2 /etc/ /usr/local/etc/ -g /bak/saturday/etc.bz2
Is this the correct format? I cannot get it to
If you aren't using it as a production machine you may as well start
with the 5.x, 5.2.1 right now, as it could use a larger test base on
the road to stable.

I shouldlspecify that AFAIK
the first listing is the 'old' way which still works and with multiple *BSD
the second is the 'new' way that works with FBSD and maybe OBSD IIRC.

I think you want something like
title FreeBSD 5.x
rootnoverify
root (hd0,2,c) ## or e or something I think c tells it to maunt the
whole slice... or is it e I think it is e
chainloader +1 ## this is the new way I think. I think kernel
/boot/loader is old (but prolly still works)
