As per topic ... is it possible to upgrade from the 32 bit version of
FreeBSD to the 64 bit version or is it better to do a new
installation ? If upgrade can be done .. any URL/Links to a guide on

2 days ago i was able to do a buildworld installworld quite fine .. now im
getting an error on my FreeBSD 6.1-PreRelease system and reading UPDATING
gives me nothing

This is a little bit obscure but you basically didn't follow the generic
instructions on updating your system. You can get away without doing
the
mergemaster -p
most of the time but when you see a message about a missing user or
group, you have to add them to the appropriate file and
FreeBSD 6.1-PreRealease 32bit system

X is failing to start due to it failing to get the mouse, yet during
boot the mouse is/does work briefly ... but at the end i get uhub1:
device problem (SET_ADDR_FAILED), disabling port 1 .. then everything

yes but there is an optino to turn it off so it dosent add that in and
unfortunately, my windows machine isnt called fred.

Since i updated my ports/source/world on a FREEBSD 7.1-PRERELEASE AMD64
a few days ago and had to do a reboot, all of a sudden my network
connection is dropping out if no consistent traffic is being done, more
then simply an IRC chats. i've had to have a few torrents seeding to

I havee 2 burrners in my machine and not one off them will bburn a CD or

I also had this problem, I resolved it by;
portupgrade -Rf firefox
My understanding is that this goes and forcibly builds all of the ports
that firefox depends on, then firefox itself.
If you run the commands with truss it will give you some debug information
on what it is
I updated my ports this afternoon and ktorrent has an upgrade, but alas
the pkg for it isnt in the distfiles list on the website yet, was this
in error or has something gona astray ?

computer hung. I restarted finished portupgrade but now KDE
stalls/stops during loading at the same spot each time ...Initalizing
system Services it sits on this part then it just stops loading is the
best way to describe it.

If you wish to use SNMP to monitor traffic voumes, etc., you'll need
to use something like mrtg, cacti or nagios.
ntop doesn't know or care about SNMP, any more than does, say, tcpdump
or WireShark.

pkgdb -F dosent fix .. Thoughts / ideas on resolving this welcome.
enterprise# portupgrade -aDkp
Stale dependency: firefox-2.0.0.1_1,1 -- azureus-2.5.0.0 -- manually
run 'pkgdb -F' to fix, or
Running FreeBSD 6.2-STABLE .. Azureus as always fials with the following (any
ideas/suggestions welcomed)

Quite a lrge portion of my packages are failing in portupgrade due to
either the ports distinfo file apparently being out of date OR the
pckage is spelt incorectly, when i had only just finished running a
CVS to update it all... Below is a snippet of an error with 1 of the ports.

= libXext-1.0.3.tar.gz is not in /usr/ports/x11/libXext/distinfo.
= Either /usr/ports/x11/libXext/distinfo is out of date, or
= libXext-1.0.3.tar.gz is spelled incorrectly.
