Im new to FreeBSD and did a FTP of 8.2 and unzipped to a cd rom. It
was an ISO Version. I then FTP the CDROM BOOT file and un zipped it.
Unfortunately It wont auto start when i put disk in computer startup.

Fixit environment and so did it all from a clean install instead.

If you have another system to use temporally and a copy of Windows you
can download BartPE and create a Windows boot CD. You can then boot
from the CD and load the update either from a secondary CD drive or
HDD or something.

Can /home be configured so all files are created with permissions of
0600 (or 0700 for directories)? I use a umask of 77 but that's annoying
when playing with files in other locations.

How do startup scripts work?
I added:
mysql_enable=²YES²
But I don¹t think it is working. I had rebooted my system the other day and
my mail server stopped working (postfix reading from mysql tables) and I
tried looking at my running processes:
ps ax |grep sql
and nothing was returned. So I
I connect to my FreeBSD system from a PowerBook and was wondering (mostly
for fun) if I can run Gnome2 or KDE or something within a Terminal
connection on my PowerBook.
I can manage my FreeBSD system fine from a CLI but thought it would be fun
to run Gnome or KDE.
Is what I am mentioning even
some XSP or some other type of web server. I think it
was written entirely in C# and was wondering if that is a better way to go
rather then Apache. I prefer Apache and would rather get it working rather
then switch to a whole new web server.

Dear list,
I am setting up a Mail Server with postfix and trying to add spam filtering
and anti virus filtering. The ClamAV program is trying to read
/var/run/clamav/clamd. The directory is there but the socket file is not.
How do I create a socket file by hand/

not even in the handbook. I found building a kernel and was able to
do that with no problems. But I would like to update my system with any
security updates that have occured since 5.3 has come out.

You're right, building the world is building all the base binaries.
It should be done while you're building
upgrades.
What kind of stuff goes in there?

Fixed this!
Resolved all my IRQ conflicts, didn't do it...
Compiled the fxp driver into the kernel (instead of having it as a module),
*fixed it*!
