rum0 performance 1Mbps; ath0 reboots system

2009-01-14 Thread Deceased
Hi, List,

Recently I've set up my non-lcd-wokring HP NX9020 notebook as ADSL
gateway and AP on 7.1-release

Everything works well except wireless. I have LogiLink WL0025 (RT2573)
which users rum(4) driver. I now it's not recomended to use rum cards as
hostap, but my ath(4) card works even worse(later on that).

IT is a USB stick so if it was connected as USB 1.0 device i would
expect that kind of performance, but it's not (i guess :) )

addr 3: 802.11 bg WLAN, Ralink, device rum0

Also mind that I'm using USB ethernet adapter on the same USB root hub.

I tried to use Netgear WG511T (atheros 5212) (carbus) but it constantly
couses IRQ storms with cbb0 device, after I disable acpi it works, but
even slower than rum0 card and panics the machine if I remove the card
from working machine.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
dmesg attached.

Intel SATA RAID SRCS16 performance

2008-06-26 Thread Deceased
Hi,

this week I got server with Intel(R) RAID Controller SRCS16 8 port
SATA RAID controller, which needed to be reinstalled.

After backing all data and reinstall, I noticed that writing to logical
drives almost never exceeds 700 bytes/sec. Testing with dd :

dd if=/dev/zero of=/usr/test.dat bs=1M count=1000

changing bs does not show any changes. Though read perfmormance is
normal : about 5500 bytes/sec, testing with dd :

dd if=/dev/amrd0s1f of=/dev/null bs=1M count=1000

I get same results no matter what drive configuration is RAID1, RAID0, JBOD

Same drives connected to motherboard SATA raid ports give me :

# dd if=/dev/zero of=/mirror0/data.test bs=1M count=1000
1000+0 records in
1000+0 records out
1048576000 bytes transferred in 19.018282 secs (55135158 bytes/sec)

and

# dd if=/dev/ar0s1d of=/dev/null bs=1M count=1000
1000+0 records in
1000+0 records out
1048576000 bytes transferred in 15.036276 secs (69736416 bytes/sec)

updating to RELENG_7 gave no results.

# uname -a
FreeBSD 7.0-STABLE FreeBSD 7.0-STABLE #0: Wed Jun 25 17:09:28 EEST 2008
root@:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/contestus i386

So I guess that there is a problem with the controller and driver

Testing with Linux Debian lenny gives me better results : ~32MB/s on
controller RAID drives.

Any ideas ?
Thanks in advance.

Output from dmesg :
amr0: LSILogic MegaRAID 1.53 mem 0xff90-0xff90 irq 21 at
device 0.0 on pci6
amr0: [ITHREAD]
amr0: LSILogic Intel(R) RAID Controller SRCS16 Firmware 713S, BIOS

PS.: updating firmware didn't help

FreeBSD constantly hanging

2007-09-19 Thread Deceased

Hi,

I have a serious problem, that I cannot solve my self :(

I have freebsd 6.2 router that has 3 NICs (lan, wan, dmz), suddenly
(about two weeks ago) it started to hang without leaving anything in
logs. I thought that it was hardware problem. So at first I changed
motherboard, ram, cpu, NIC's, PSU, I kept changing everything but it was
still hanging :/, reinstalled, but it didn't help.

Then we got brand new PC and I did fresh install of 6.2_RELEAS-200708,
but to my surprise it was still hanging. There may by power issues, but
in the same place there are 2 more servers : HP Proliant ML310 G4 with
windoze and second is simple P4 1.6Ghz with 6.0-STABLE, both of them are
not hanging.

Hanging machine is connected to the APC 350 ups, but it does not help.

Thank You for your thoughts.

You see, every hardware in the PC was changed, we even bought new PC.

It seems like power issue. We just installed one old power rectifier to
see if it helps. Hope all hanging will end.

pppoe + ipfw + natd and jails

2005-11-20 Thread Deceased

Hi,

I'm runnig fbsd as a router at home for dsl. Everything was runing fine
until one day. Suddenly all pcs in lan stoped opening foreign web pages
and connecting to foreign hosts, though I could ping those hosts.
That seemd like isp problem so i called them and they said everything is
fine. So I started to mess around with ipfw rules.

So heres my conf.:

IPs to jails aliased added when jail is starting. I use jailctl util for
that.

Ok now to the problem solving.

when i add this line to ipfw foreign pages are loaded, but mldonkey
isn't able to connect:

01000 allow ip from any to any

05000 divert 8668 ip from any to any via tun0
06000 allow ip from any to any
65535 deny ip from any to any

so i used the handbook for ipfw and natd and came to this rule set:

add 00020 allow all from any to any via rl1
add 00030 allow all from any to any via lo0
add 00100 divert natd ip from any to any in via tun0
add 00101 check-state
add 00200 skipto 5000 all from any to any out via rl0 keep-state
add 05000 divert natd ip from any to any out via tun0
add 06000 allow all from any to any
add 65535 deny ip from any to any

but everything is the same: foreign pages are not loaded, mldonkey is
downloading.

Thanks for help.

You still should have a look at vinum, couse i read some where that it
can merge the drives so they can look as one.

Just to clarify, the PCcard is being recognized by FreeBSD, I added it in, it works fine. I have configured rc.conf to include a pccard_ifconfig (currently it's set to DHCP, which seems to be setting the appropriate ip address). Any help that could be offered would be most appreciated.
