The 'uname' output
I have wondered why my build number in the 'uname' output not is incrementet for each build I make of the system, it shows '#0' all the time. Example output of 'uname -a': FreeBSD mugin-LAN.localhost 8.0-CURRENT FreeBSD 8.0-CURRENT #0: Thu Jun 18 12:41:05 CEST 2009 r...@mugin-lan.localhost:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/MUGIN i386 I had same issue on the system when I ran -STABLE. Catch kernel notification in devd.conf
Hi,
I want my laptop to shutdown when the battery is critical low, but the
ACPI Battery info warning only comes on at a battery level of 10, but I
just noticed that the kernel logs:
kernel: battery0: critically low charge!
..this happens at battery life 7. Better point of shutting down, this
will give me at least 10 minutes more ;-)
How can I catch this in the devd.conf?
My current catch of the battery notifications looks like this (and it
works nicely, but in my point of view, too early):
notify 10 {
match system ACPI;
match subsystem CMBAT;
action /usr/local/etc/rc.d/battery;
};
Of course, I could make a loop in the battery shell script to catch it
from the sysctl -n hw.acpi.battery.life ;-), but if I can get the
kernel critically low charge, I think that's better.

Wireless network
Hello there, I just installed FreeBSD on my laptop, a Toshiba Satellite Pro L40. Everything is working nicely, even X with the intel driver. The laptop has a buildin wireless network, presenting itself during boot as: ugen0: vendor 0x0bda RTL8187B_WLAN_Adapter, class 0/0, rev 2.00/2.00,addr 2 on uhub2 For some reason it is registered as an USB item. I have not been able to find a driver for this, and I know that it can be tricky to get it up running. Hi list, After I loaded a driver (ubsec), I saw this line in the log: cryptosoft0: software crypto on motherboard Is it something I can take advantage of? Hi, I have tried to lookup a hardware list video chipset supported on x.org, but for some reason I can't find anything. Is there a good hint where to find it? I guess that the FreeBSD hardware.txt file does not show this because it is a x.org issue. Keyboard without Scroll Lock
Hi, I don't know where to post this, except from this list, so maybe someone will add it to a FAQ ;-). just for info, if you happens to buy a keyboard without the Scroll Lock key, as I did (Logitech EX110), and are missing this function in consoles, I found a solution with re-configuring the keymap (I'm probably not the first, but did not find a short solution on the web). As root: Dump the keyboard map to a file kbdcontrol -d mykeys Change the file so Ctrl+NumLock will set Scroll Lock. Find line with scancode base 069, or where nlock fills the entire line. Edit column 3 from nlock to slock The line now looks like: 069 nlock nlock slock nlock nlock nlock nlock nlock O Edit /etc/rc.conf: keymap=/home/xxx/mykeys #where the file is Reboot, and now Ctrl+NumLock will toggle the Scroll Lock bit. Before you reboot it is possible to try if it works.
