Re: [none]
From: Mike Meyer [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [none] In [EMAIL PROTECTED], edmund jones [EMAIL PROTECTED] typed: Thanks so much for your past help. Of course, I have another quetion. I've got X up and run Kdesk - coool. However, the browser -I haven't configured - debating on netscape. That brings me to install or not? The bsd ports site mentions that mozilla is comparatively large and that bsd\netscape 4.x has a security hole and the modules for linux.7x may be numerous, NOT TO MENTION TAKING ANY SUBSEQUENT OVERLAYS IT MIGHT PRODUCE. So I thought I'd ask what you think? I use bsd to emerse myself in a mixed network and will ultimately use it as a backend router/dns/mail server. Browsing would just be cool. I guess what as a novice Iam asking is could I risk netscape 4.x (would it compile and install for the CDROM or do I risk linux? Nothing earthshaking. Since your only reason for not using mozilla is the size, I'd go with mozilla. Netscape isn't exactly small itself - even if you only use netscape-navigator. I've also used skipstone, which is a very lightweight browser based on the Mozilla rendering engine. If you choose Mozilla, you will probably want to build it (assuming you despise the generic arch packages, like me) with the WITHOUT_MAILNEWS and WITHOUT_COMPOSER defines. They'll significantly decrease its size and compile time. mike - -- Mike Meyer [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.mired.org/consulting.html Independent WWW/Perforce/FreeBSD/Unix consultant, email for more information. Cannot find -lXft2
Hi, I'm having trouble compiling some gimp-devel related ports (currently libglade2) that complain they can't find -lXft2. I've tried reinstalling x11-fonts/Xft and the various XFree86 base ports, but no luck. Anyone know a solution? Re: Help with Kerberos 5 setup
Thanks, your PDF helped me get k5su up and running. Now can you help me switch my console login service to Kerberos? :) I don't quite get the man pages for PAM and am worried about locking myself out of my system if I do something wrong. Help with Kerberos 5 setup
Hello, I'm a newbie to Kerberos trying to set it up at the suggestion of the handbook's Securing FreeBSD section. However, the Kerberos section is heavily biased towards version 4 and I'm not sure if it's leading me on the right track. I've figured out how to edit krb5.conf to set my realms, boot up kadmind and kdc in rc.conf, init the database using k5admin and stash my master key. However, when adding the two principals the handbook says are needed I get a few warning messages which I'm nervous about. kadmin add --random-password passwd root/admin@SAKURA's Password: Max ticket life [unlimited]: Max renewable life [unlimited]: Principal expiration time [never]: Password expiration time [never]: Attributes []: root/admin@SAKURA's Password: k5admin: kadm5_create_principal: Client (root/admin@SAKURA) unknown added passwd@SAKURA with password `not4u2c' k5admin: adding passwd: Client not found in Kerberos database It looks like all I need to do is add myself in as a client somehow, but I'd like to be reassured that the handbook's setup instructions for Kerberos 4 are also the right ones under Kerberos 5. Can anyone do that, or help me through the correct setup procedure if it's different? To Unsubscribe: send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with unsubscribe freebsd-questions in the body of the message
keyboard mapping + ACPI/APM
Hi, I'd like to map one of the Windows keys on my M$ keyboard to the UNIX Compose key, preferably under both X and console. But the key doesn't seem to be listed in 'man kbdmap', and I can't find where the X keyboard mappings are stored. Can anyone help me out? Also, I thought I'd ask in the same message: what are the advantages and disadvantages of ACPI versus APM? poor 3D performance
Hello again. I've got a Duron 950 with 256MB RAM and a Radeon 7500 with 32MB vmem, running 4.7-STABLE up-to-date as of a few days ago, and I can't figure out why 3D games like bzflag are running at almost unplayable frame rates. I have the drm-kmod port installed, my video card is detected properly and DRI is loading correctly... can anyone throw me some suggestions? mplayer build error
This isn't a big problem, but I've been recieving a consistent build error in MPlayer under 4.6 and 4.7-STABLE for quite some time now. My usual solution is to remove the offending junk, which breaks mp3lib audio but allows the build to complete. I'm a little tired of it, so I was wondering if someone could identify the problem here. cc -c -march=i686 -O -fforce-mem -fforce-addr -frerun-cse-after-loop -frerun-loop-opt -pipe -O3 -ffast-math -fomit-frame-pointer -D_THREAD_SAFE -D_LARGEFILE_SOURCE -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -I/usr/local/include/freetype2 -I/usr/local/include -I/usr/X11R6/include/gtk12 -I/usr/local/include/glib12 -I/usr/local/include -I/usr/X11R6/include -o tabinit_MMX.o tabinit_MMX.c {standard input}: Assembler messages: {standard input}:295: Error: junk `+444' after register {standard input}:336: Error: junk `+444' after register gmake[1]: *** [tabinit_MMX.o] Error 1 gmake[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/ports/graphics/mplayer/work/MPlayer-0.90pre10/mp3lib' gmake: *** [mp3lib/libMP3.a] Error 2 *** Error code 2 Stop in /usr/ports/graphics/mplayer. The CPU temperature and cooling fan are obviously not being measured correctly, probably either a software problem or just a cheap component (fan/CPU/motherboard) without a sensor. As for the chipset being slightly overheated, I would recommend getting a case or PCI slot fan if you don't have one; it will improve airflow over the entire motherboard. You can also buy a fan for some chipsets, but if the air isn't getting out of your case it won't help much.
