Network interfaces

2003-08-14 Thread Tkachenko, Artem N
Hi,

I have a Inspiron 5100 and I install FreeBSD 4.8 on it. The computer has an integrated
NIC. After installation and typing ifconfig I see the there was no network interfaces
detected. Typing /stand/sysinstall and checking the network interfaces configuration I
see the fallowing:

faith0 unknown network interface type
sl0 SLIP interface on device /dev/cuaa0 (COM1)
ppp0PPP interface on device /dev/cuaa0 (COM1)

Thank you for your time. Sincerely

Artem Tkachenko

SNMP

2003-07-30 Thread Tkachenko, Artem N
Hi,

I am new to SNMP. I was asked to set up SNMP agents and a manager on some of the
computers in the lab. Can someone recommend some SNMP programs that I can use or a
good link on the Internet? I need it for both FreeBSD and Windows machines. Thank you
very much for you time. Best regards

VPN remote access server (continue)

2003-07-01 Thread Tkachenko, Artem N
Hi,

I have the fallowing picture:

Node1 --Internet--Node2---LAN using IP

Node1:
Win2K
VPN connection using PPTP
IP (public) = 129.197.23.232

Node2:
FreeBSD
VPN server (using MPD)
IP (public) = 129.197.244.6
IP (privet) = 10.77.5.2

LAN:
10.77.5/24

I set up a PPTP VPN connection between Node1 and Node2. Node1 gets privet IP
address 10.77.5.50. When I try to ping some computer on the LAN (not Node2)
with IP address 10.77.5.1 I know that computer gets the ping but does not
know how to get back to Node1. It might be a problem with the ARP because I
get an ARP error ([pptp1] no interface to proxy arp on for 10.77.5.50) when
I start MPD. I am not sure about this. And I don't know how to resolve this
problem.
I have no control of 10.77.5/24 computers (except Node2) but I want those
computers to see Node1 when it connects trough Node2. How can I make
10.77.5/24 computers to send packets to Node2 when they want to send it to
Node1? Thank you very much for your help. Best regards

Artem Tkachenko

Networking problem

2003-06-19 Thread Tkachenko, Artem N
Hi,

I posted similar question some time ago but I guess I misstated the problem.
I will be more careful this time. Here is my situation:

Node A - LAN1 - Node B - LAN2 - Node C

Node A:
OS: Win2K
IP Address (to LAN1): 129.197.23.232

Node B:
OS: FreeBSD 4.6
IP address (to LAN1): 129.197.244.10
IP address (to LAN2): 10.77.1.1

Node C:
OS: FreeBSD 4.6
IP address (to LAN2) 10.77.2.1

What I am trying to accomplish is to set up Node A and Node B (and not Node
C) to have Node A think that it is directly connected to LAN2 with an IP
Address 10.77.1.2

So if Node A needs to send a packet to Node C, some program on Node A will
encapsulate the packed and send it to Node B. Some other program on Node B
will get the encapsulated packet, recognize that it came from Node A and
that it needs to go somewhere else on LAN2, open the capsule and forward the
original packet to the appropriate destination.

And if Node C needs to send a packet to 10.77.1.2, the router on LAN2 will
force it to send the packet to Node B. The Node B should then forward the
packet to Node A.

I tried to accomplish this in many ways but was not able to get exactly what
I was looking for. I would highly appreciate if someone could tell me which
program I need to use. ANY help if highly appreciated. I am really stuck...
Thank you in advance. Sincerely

Artem

Creating a IPSec tunnel between a Windows machine and a machine running FreeBSD

2003-06-10 Thread Tkachenko, Artem N
The topology is as fallows:

Node A - Internet -- Node B - Internal net B
where
node A's external address is 111.111.11.111
node B's internal address is 12.3.4.567
external address is 222.222.222.2

Node A is running windows 2000 and I am using PGPnet to make a tunnel to
Node B which is running FreeBSD and I am using racoon on that machine. The
tunnel has to be working for all traffic. I am not sure, but I think that
Node B is not set up as gateway/router.
It is very important that the connection is set up as a tunnel and not as a
transporter.
I greatly appreciate your help. Sincerely

Art

Setting up an IPSec tunnel

2003-06-10 Thread Tkachenko, Artem N
Hello,

I have the following situation:
Node A - LAN1 - Node B - LAN2 - Node C

LAN1 address: 129.197.23.0/24
LAN2 address: 10.0.0.0/24

Node A:
OS: Win2K
IP (to LAN1): 129.197.23.232

Node B:
OS: FreeBSD 4.6
IP address (to LAN1): 129.197.244.6
IP address (to LAN2): 10.0.0.253

Node C:
OS: FreeBSD
IP address (to LAN2) 10.0.0.252

Goal is to set up NetMeeting between Node A and Node C by creating a tunnel
from Node A to Node B.
I have racoon setup on Node B (FreeBSD). Do I have to set up gif()? If yes,
how? What else do I need to do on this node? Please tell me how to setup the
racoon.conf file.

The main problem is setting up Node A (Win2K). I have PGPNet and Nortel VPN
client that I can install on this machine. There is also Win2K build in
IPSec stuff.
I want Node A to also have an IP address on a virtual interface this is part
of LAN2. I was trying out the built in stuff and I got it to work in the
transport mode but I do not think that's what I need. What is a difference
between the tunnel mode and the transport mode and how do I set up the build
in stuff to work in the tunnel mode?

Any help with any of the questions will be greatly appreciated. Sincerely

Artem
