I was looking at the splash(4) stuff myself last week, and I seemed to
recall it expected a '.bmp' file, by default. I note this is described (see
above) as a type '.pcx' file, and further, that you seem to have
'splash_pcx_load
someone else, down the line.

My research indicates that linking sys/byteorder.h to
netinet/in.h doesn't work. (It was a workaround suggested on one
of the URLs I read.)

That plus amd(8) should, in theory, get you a relatively stateless NFS
connection.
Personally, I don't trust amd(8). It's not clear to me that it's any smarter

administering these sorts of setups.
