Hi,

Thank you for your answer, I run a fsck on all the partitions and it seems
to work.

Thanks.

Post-installation error on two disks

2012-03-27 Thread Kata Goto
Hello all,

I am trying to install FreeBSD 9.0 AMD64 on two hard drive disks, I
followed the handbook and I make this configuration :
My two HDD :
 - ada0 : OCZ Vertex 2 40 GB (GPT)
 - ada1 : Western Digital VelociRaptor 150 GB (GPT)

The setup :
DiskPartition Type Size Mountpoint Label
ada0freebsd-boot512K
ada0freebsd-ufs 25G/exrootfs
ada0freebsd-ufs 26G/var exvarfs
ada1freebsd-ufs 135G /usr exusrfs
ada1freebsd-ufs 4G /tmp extmpfs

I commit and the installation ended with no error.
But when I reboot :
could not find file system superblock
the following file system had an unexpected inconsistency
ufs /dev/ada1p2 (/tmp)

I tried many configurations (switching disk/partitions/slices), but the
last partition of my WD fails always.
Is my HDD unsupported, have you got an idea?

For you help,
In advance,
Thanks.

FreeBSD 7.0 Installation error

2009-01-13 Thread T D
Hi people,

Hi people,
I am Tom and I have been attempting to install FreeBSD 7.0 from a dvd.
I put the dvd in the drive and boot, the boot screen appears with the options
default, acpi disabled, safe mode, etc, I then select default.
The hardware probing/detecting scrolls by and then comes to a halt with the
following line:

GEOM_LABLE: Lable for provider acd0 is is09660/FreeBSD 7.

I have also on other boot attempts tried acpi disabled, safe mode with the same
outcome.
Have selected single user on another attempt and sysinstall program boots,
after going through setting up the hard drive and paritions durring the install
of the os the following error occurs numerous times:

Write failure on transfer!
(write 0 bytes of 1425408 bytes) 100%

Just wondering if this has occured to any one else and how they got around it.
Look forward to replys, thanks

Tom

Someone should make some explicit changes - at least in messages

When installation program write new partitions structure to disc it exits with

The same problem with FreeBSD 6.2 and another my HDD.
But hardware looks good, because Linux and OpenBSD was installed without any

Have you tried _not speficying a geometry? In my experience it is best
to let the install program figure it out. I have always ignored the
warning at the beginning of the installation process without problems.

This is most likely a naming issue. Use ftp and manually cd to the above

Also because of the libraries involved you may not be able to do 'make install'
while xorg is running. Personally I subscribe to using the package because of
the length of time to build.

I am trying to install the [EMAIL PROTECTED] from the ports collection:
When I run

FreeBSD Installation error

2004-05-22 Thread M Prabhanjan
I am unable to install FreeBSD on a PC that has 4GB disk space.
I am trying to install from a CD that I bought sometime back.
In the installation's Choose Distributions menu, I choose to install
X-Developer and X-Kern-Developer distributions.

I get the following error message during the installation:
Write failure on transfer! (wrote -1 bytes of 240640 bytes)
[ Press enter to continue ]
On pressing enter, I get the following message:
User Confirmation Requested
Unable to transfer the scontrib distribution from acd0c.
Do you want to try to retrieve it again?

Is this due to lack of disk space (4GB) or bad sectors in the hard disk?
However, through a search on the internet I found that someone else also has gotten
into the same problem described above [unfortunately it is in Japanese and I cant make
a word out of it!]

Here is the output of uname -a from interactive shell:
FreeBSD 4.3-RELEASE FreeBSD 4.3-RELEASE #1: Sat Apr 21 11:15:36 GMT 2001 [EMAIL
PROTECTED]: /usr/src/sys/compile/BOOTMFS

Thanks,
MP

If you switch to the interactive shell and issue df -h, it will tell you
how much space it used.
I've only seen this particular error when there was a hardware problem,
however. I may be remembering wrong, but I seem to remember a cheap CD-ROM
plugged into the same chain as the HDD causing this.

 Sorry to trouble you
I am pretty much a N00b with FreeBSD, and my previous experience with
it consisted of a Squid proxy server running on FreeBSD at work. This
system has been extremely reliable and hence I wanted to set up a
similar setup for my home network now that I am on unlimited
 broadband.

 I have downloaded the 5.2-RELEASE-i386-bootonly.iso

Try at least 5.2.1 or one of the snap-shots from -Current. There have
been a lot of improvements on the 5.x since 5.2-RELEASE.

file and burnt it onto a CD. I then place it into an older PC and
received the following error Error: stack overflow This line appears
after the 7 boot options and the ASCII image of a little devil.

BTW, it's not a devil but a daemon and his name in Beastie; it will
haunt you if called devil.

If I persist with keystrokes it will eventually display the OK prompt
however the keyboard letters are replaced with windings and arte
 therefore illegible.

The system is a P200 with 32Mb Ram and 2.5GIG HDD if this helps any.

I'm not sure, but I think you need a little more RAM for 5.x with the
GENERIC kernel, which could explained your error.

 Does anyone have any idea?

Seems like you need more RAM or swap space.
