I tried to do a wi fixmbr in win-xp but that changed teh mbr on the
first drive, which is inaccesible now ;-((

Actually - my memory is fading; that should be fdisk. And a quick man
check on WinXP yeilds 'fixmbr' to be the equivalent:
fixmbr device name
