I'm using GRUB and it has no problem recognizing UFS2 slices.
Same version than you, GRUB 0.97.

2. Choose a generic font name in konqueror config, something like "Sans" and
"Monospace" instead of (for example) "Bitstream Vera Sans" and "Bitstream
