Hi
I am trying to get OO 1.1.2 running on 4.10
I have KDE installed.
I have managed to install the software, but
now I cannot run it.
When I installed, I could not execute the installation instructions
from a command line as requested, but there were
no permission problems as suggested.
HI,
I have trouble getting my openoffice installation to run
on fbsd 4.10. (subject of previous questions)
I just remembered that I installed it without the java JRE option,
because I didnt have the slightest idea where to get that
(or even what it is)
Can someone tell me where to get the java
Hi,
In my first install of freeBSD 4.10, i selected X-developer
and installed all the sources - not really knowing what I
might need. I have 6 Gigs, and I keep running out of
disk space when installing ports.
I think I need to start again and select a smaller install.
Eventually, I want to use
Hi Steve,
I used an alternate email address which did not have
any anti-virus filters and it got through.
For some reason it came from Charlie Root.
Anyway, here is the output of the df -h command
Thanks

Hi,
This is probably a contender for the dumbest question
of the year.
When I defined my IP address in the freeBSD installation,
I had to give a name. All the examples use something
like the one I entered, i.e. peter.first.try, except they
often used a xxx.xxx.com.
Could someone point me to
Hi,
I made bootable CD's from the 2 installation
floppies for freeBSD 4.10.
Is there someway I can see what is on these
disks. I suspect one may be bad, even though
I have used it many times. I can easily cut

some way to check the directory or contents

At present I shut down KDE, go to
the command line and start a Make.
If I need to get a file manually
from somewhere, I go back into KDE
to get it.
I would rather do it all from
within KDE if possible. The Shell
Konsole appears to be the same as
Hi Jay,
I am quite confused about this diablo
jre install.
I just tried installing diablo jre 13
from the ports collection, but it tells
me to get the file manually from
freebsdfoundation. The file it wants
me to download is
diablo-latte-1.3.1-0.tar.bz2

Hi,
I am very new to this, and have just struggled
through many occurrences of the same sort of thing.
During installation i had used the third
xf86config option, which can also be run
from the command line after installation.

Hi,
as part of the jdk14 install, i have to
download the file j2sdk-1_4_2_04-linux-i586.bin
from the sun web site and put it into the
/usr/ports/distfiles folder.
I did that - no problem.
I can see the file listed in the right place.
When i do the Make, it aborts with an error.
It cannot find
to the end of the find
command - so I dont think there is any spelling
error)
This is baffling.
Thanks again

Thanks a lot Mathew,
I have the 3 files you first mentioned,
and, yes, I have the linux compatabilty set.
I will try the cvsup and see if that sorts things out.
I'm glad to hear others find this java installation
far from simple.
Many thanks

I've got the same thing on the 2 machines i am experimenting
with. I am new and thought it was a standard feature :)
I also defined a standard US 101 keyboard.
Makes me think there is a setting or choice at installation that
deals with this, rather than having to patch something.
I counted my
I am trying to get CVsup running on 4.10.
The handbook indicates it is easier to
install the package, so I went to the
package collection and installed

The package installation seemed to indicate
the target directory was /usr/ports/net/cvsup.

I am very new, and have been reinstalling
FreeBSD many times to clean up whatever
mess i make and start again.
I recently used cvsup to update my
ports collection for the 4.10_RELEASE.
Now, when I reinstall, it takes much longer
because i bring in the updated ports collection

I am treading more unknown ground trying
to get NetBeans to run on 4.10.
I installed jdk 1.4.2 (thanks to help from
here), and have installed this Netbeans
via the ports collection.
Now when i try to run it, it wants an
environmental variable called JDK_HOME to
be set.

Hi,
I am trying to install Samba3 from the ports
collection onto freeBSD 4.10.
The Make terminated because there was an
earlier version of openldap already
installed, and the new one wanted to store
files in the same directory.
When i tried to pkg_delete the old version,
it refused, saying
Restating an earlier problem with more detail.
KDE on the 4.10 install CD uses openldap 2.1.30
I have struck version conflicts installing Samba3,
which wants openldap 2.2.14. Netbeans had
the same problem when i tried a few days ago.
In the ports collection KDE uses 2.2.14.
Can I just remove
Hi,
Do you have Samba3 and KDE on the same 4.10 Box ?
How did you manage to install Samba3 ?
I get version conflicts with openldap.
KDE is using 2.1.30 and Samba 3 wants 2.2.xx
I cant seem to delete KDE cleanly, and I
cant delete openldap.
I think I am back to reinstalling from scrach
again,

Hi Mike,
I see from my digging around that you
are the author of portmanager, so I hope
its ok to send questions in your direction.
I have KDE installed as a package, and
I assume that its dependency openldap also
came as part of the package.
Can I use portmanager to upgrade the
package ?
How did everyone here find out
about the various utitilities
available for managing ports and
packages ?
I realised the lack of answers to
my recent questions about KDE nad
openldap meant that it was
generally felt that i should have been
able to dig the information out
from somewhere.

Many thanks to all for some very
useful links and pointers.

Hey All,
I am havign some trouble installing FreeBSD 4.10 on my PC. I
downloaded an ISO image (and verified the checksum) from the
Canadian
FreeBSD FTP site. After burning the image to CD, I checked the
checksums, which were the same.
When I put the CD in the drive and

Is it mySql ?
I was going to install it but the

recently are a bit worrying.
Thanks

Thanks Matthew.
Somehow I again find myself better informed,
much entertained, and pleasantly foolish.
Hopefully I am soon to acquire the skill of looking for
things in the places where they can be found.
Thanks again.

So I had all the numbers, etc. at my fingertips anyhow.

HI,
I have just done a fresh install of 4.10 R
from the ISO disk
The first package I installed was cvsup,
and then i did a complete ports upgrade from

Then I tried to make KDE3. It failed trying to
find a file called jpegexiforient.c.
Having no idea what to do about that, I

I have just installed 4.10R (again :)).
I did not install KDE from packages.
As soon as I installed the bare system I
cvsup'd all the ports, then did a
make install kde3.
This completed successfully, albeit in
3 days.
I then tried to make package for kde
so I wouldnt need to compile it again.

I plan to burn my distfiles to a CD, but I am not sure
which of the burn software options is preferable.
I would like to be able to read the CD on both

I would appreciate any recommendations or warnings

I am running 4.10R.
Thanks
