Has the FreeSBIE (Free BSD live CD) project been phased out?
I have been trying to get to their page for more than a day ~ http://www.freebsd.org/where.html ~ FreeSBIE: http://www.freesbie.org/ ~ Maybe you can help me out anyway. Basically I would like to know if the latest release of FreeSBIE has a fromhd or bootfrom option from which you could start it based on an ISO image and free the CD-ROM/DVD player for whichever purpose you want. ~ Also I would like to experiment with DTrace using FreeBSD. Any hints? ~ Thank you lbrtchx ___ freebsd-questions@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to freebsd-questions-unsubscr...@freebsd.org

Usually when an organized project calls it quits they will leave some form of notification up for people to see. In this case I'd bet it's either the server has failed or a router to the server has failed. Sometimes these can take several days to get fixed. Re: Freesbie on USB stick + qemu
I should have been clearer, I am running Freesbie from a usb stick. However it is running inside Qemu with XP being the host machine. Are you using QEMU on the host machine or on the Freesbie pendrive system? And if the former, what is the point (or benefit) to you? And does this have anything to do with your broken main board? I take it you are running Freesbie on your OpenBSD laptop? Else why make the reference to it? Freesbie on USB stick + qemu
Good day all, Just recently I discovered a new (for me) way of using Freesbie and I wanted to share it with you. A few months ago the motherboard on my FreeBSD machine gave up, and I had no way of running Unix anymore (aside from my ancient Toshiba that runs OpenBSD). Ive always liked Freesbie, but using it as a LiveCD and rebooting between it and XP is daunting. Googling for linux usb brought me to this site http://www.pendrivelinux.com/ . I tried most of the Linux distros they have on that site, however for some reason or another I was not satisfied, either it didnt have gcc (damn small) or couldnt connect to the internet (ubuntu). Then I remembered Freesbie and decided to give it a try, running it from a usb stick using Qemu. I followed the instructions for Ubuntu http://www.pendrivelinux.com/2008/01/11/run-ubuntu-710-from-windows/ And the only thing that I had to do was to replace the Ubuntu ISO image with the one of Freesbie. It feels pretty snappy with Kqemu acceleration driver installed. I can even store stuff on the stick; after running the mountdisks script, an ext2fs partition is mounted and I was able to save files on it and they were there the next time I started Freesbie. I am able to connect to the network. The only issue that I have is when running X (startx), the window is tiny (800 X 600 pixels I believe), but its not a big deal. Hope someone finds it interesting, Michael Michael Sherman http://msherman77.blogspot.com/ ___ freebsd-questions@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I looked at that FAQ now and it says you can upgrade to 5.3 by using ports. Do you know how the ports collection works? I think the ports is the best way of managed packaged and programs that I have ever seen. Maybe you can do as you were wanting to. Once again, sorry for the mis-information. (maybe this is also the way the freesbie system is turned into a 5.3- STABLE? if so, just checkout the 5.4 sources instead of the 5.3 sources, rebuild the kernel as well as the base system and then just follow the rest of the instructions for turning freesbie into 5.3- STABLE. BUT it won't hurt to be safe and do it in two steps if you're unsure. the worst thing that can happen is that you become more familiar with system upgrading :) ) greetz, jonas ___ freebsd-questions@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
build freesbie iso
hi all: my box is 5.2R. I built a freesbie iso via 8 shell scripts on /usr/local/share/freesbie folder. then I put the iso as a bootable CD on bochs-2.2-pre2 emulator. it can bootable firstly , but next, bochs stoped on mountroot prompt. What is my missed thing in building steps ?!
