Per the man page for stat(2): The sb argument is a pointer to a stat() structure as defined by <sys/stat.h> (shown below) and into which information is placed concerning the file.

What I'm trying to understand is what the values in st_rdev represent. Is the value returned in that field documented anywhere? I grep'd around in /usr/include but didn't find much to go on.
