In my installworld log, I see the following, which updates the boot.

===> sys/boot/i386/boot2
install -o root -g wheel -m 444  boot /boot/boot
install -o root -g wheel -m 444  boot1 /boot/boot1
install -o root -g wheel -m 444  boot2 /boot/boot2

This was the last update of a 5-current machine but I haven't seen a 
change in behavior.
