With vchans disabled, you should only be able to use 1 sound producing app at a time unless you're going through artsd or esd or something for all of your sound. Did you reboot after you commented out those lines? (You don't have to reboot really, you could just do sysctl -w hw.snd.pcm0.vchans=0 A
