If you have a spare partition on your system, then you can try the depinguinator: http://www.daemonology.net/blog/2008-01-29-depenguinator-2.0.html The depinguinator helps you to create a FreeBSD install image, that has SSH enabled by default. You can boot into that system and use it as an install medium for your FreeBSD installation. In most cases you can just remove the software you're not using, and reclaim disk space that way. Also make sure any unneeded services are removed from /etc/rc.conf.
