Does that wireless access-point do NAT? We have our wireless connections behind a NAT box, and that does cause problems for things like WINS and some kinds of samba connections. I have no idea if that is related to what you are seeing, but if the box is doing NAT then that could be significant.

I am not a samba expert though, so I can't really answer
your question.
