As the non-root user, in an xterm window, type: xhost localhost Then su to root and run k3b. Running as root isn't your problem, but if you want to eliminate permission problems on the burning device(s), you can try it that way. AFAIK, the Unix/Linux disk burner software packages only work with SCSI devices. They require a SCSI translator for ATA/IDE drives. Is there a SCSI emulation option available for your SATA drives.
