is there a native driver for 'Dell Wireless 1397'?

2010-03-10 Thread Nikos Vassiliadis

Hi,

I am interested in buying a laptop from the
Dell Inspiron 15 series. Most of them are having
a wifi card branded as 'Dell Wireless 1397'.
Is there a driver for this?

I would prefer a native driver, but success
stories using it with NDIS or other general
comments regarding the Dell Inspiron 15 series
are welcome.

Thanks, Nikos

Thanks, but I've already done the quick google and

Or at least with NDIS and amd64?

I bought a Dell Latitude 6500 two years ago. The Dell Wireless was not
supported then by FreeBSD. I got an Intel card from Dell instead and the
iwn driver works well.

Me too. Yet I will not buy new/non-mainstream hardware based on
the manual. Hence the question...

All I am looking for is an I have and it works with FreeBSD-[89]
and amd64|x86.

Yes, prior to the 8.0 release.
All I find online is about failure and references about the driver
being included in FreeBSD-8 branch.

I think you can alter the configuration of the pc before you buy it. So
the cost should not be so big. I think I payed about 20$ extra for the

Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Internal Card

2008-07-25 Thread Harrison King
I am using a Dell Latitude D520 with the GENERIC kernel on FreeBSD 7.0.I am not
able to fully utilize all of the devices available on this model. However, the
most concerning issue is the Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Internal Card. I am
not able to find the device or the device name on the boot log or on any forums
on the web. Background information: This internel device is a combination Wi-Fi
and Bluetooth and is fully customizable for one interface or the other. It’s
built into each Dell Latitude D520 by default without any installation
required. I suspect if I add the device name to a custom kernel and rebuild, it
will recognize it. Any help is deeply appreciated.Sincerely,Harrison
King.Resident Design.

hp nx7300 Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-PCI

2008-01-20 Thread Bachman Kharazmi
Hi, I've tried to get my wireless card working on Freebsd 7.0RC1 using ndis.

I've followed the steps in
http://dannyman.toldme.com/2005/01/05/freebsd-howto-ndisulate-windows-drivers/
where everything has been successful. But when I do kldload
./bcmwl5_sys.ko the modules loads. But ifconfig -a doesn't show the
wireless device and the blue led on the wlan button is still off
(doesn't help pressing it). Anyone who've experienced similar behavior
and knows how to get the wireless card working?

Dell Wireless All-In-One 966 Printer

2007-08-11 Thread White Hat
I am considering purchasing a Dell Wireless All-In-One
966 Printer, I really need a wireless printer and this
one seems to be exactly what I am looking for.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to secure a great
deal of technical information regarding this device.
Has anyone on this forum used this device with
FreeBSD-6.2; and if so, where you successful?

Thanks!

No information (yet) on the 966, but the Dell 920 is said to work with
the Lexmark Z600 driver here:

Not so for the AIO 946:

It's likely made by Lexmark (maybe the Lexmark X9350) but rebadged and
rechipped so you can only use Dell ink with it. There's a less than
glowing review of the Dell version here:

Dell's web site shows only Windows drivers for this printer. Lexmark
says no Linux drivers for the X9350, either.

Dell + Lexmark + AIO - (Linux|FreeBSD drivers) = no thanks.

There are wireless print servers and access points with printer ports
that will let you make most non-host-based printers wireless. Costs
more, but gives more choices. The openprinting.org site is a good place
to check printer compatibility.

Be *VERY* careful if you decide to purchase one. They are
very strict about what printers THEY will and won't work with and in
exactly what capacity. I bought one companies wireless version, only
to be told the printer was only supported on the wired one. I purchased
the wired one and it was an ever loving SOB to get working. I ended up
just attaching it to a Winderz PC and making the Winderz a print server.
