I think it is better to write somethinf people can understand and avoid
generalizing things . One case can work for somebody and not for someone
else . Be carefull when giving advice when you are not sure for 100%.
This is regarding the su: Sorry problem .

In BSD, you need to be a member of group `wheel' to use su. Login as
root, and edit the /etc/group file to add your username to wheel.
Alternatively, use the pw command. Something like this should work:
# ps u
you have to be in group wheel to su.
ssh barrs root login as default.
