what is /dev/xpt0/

this  probably is irrelevant to 90% of the list, but it's got me
wondering. can anybody 'splain what kind of SCSI device xpt0 is?
Is there a /dev/xpt1 if you're running a second optical drive/

It's the CAM transport layer driver - see xpt(4).
