I don't recall why hald was installed (it was probably from a long time ago).
I've removed it, and so far, I'm not seeing any symptoms, so long as I avoid

I just tried disabling logitechmediaserver and restarting. Didn't help. Then I
disabled mrtg and restarted. Still didn't help.
