You can use pkg-fetch(8) to download packages on a machine with internet
access, and then copy /var/cache/pkg onto a USB stick or whatever to
load onto your isolated systems. You can even take the cntents of
/var/cache/pkg and run pkg-repo(8) to make your own repository that you
can use to install packages from on your isolated machines.

Cheers,

Matthew

And likely not then, either. pkg(8) is a rapidly evolving tool and only
updating it when there is a release is simply not viable. Until the
likelihood of an incompatible release of pkg(8) being more frequent than
releases on each supported branch, pkg(8) really has to stay out of base.

Yes, this is a real problem, though hardly an insurmountable one, but
putting pkg(8) in base right now or in the immediate future is simply not
practical. This has been re-stated many, many times on various mailing
lists. I'm sure that this is not the last time, either.

There are no plans to have pkg in base - not until base will be packaged

pkg(8) still not part of stable/11 (yet)???

2016-07-28 Thread Harry Schmalzbauer
 Hello,

I just tried 11-beta2 – as usual, many thanks for all your hard work,
Devs and REs!

I'm very concerned that there's still just a bootstrap-pkg :-(

Most of the machines I'm responsible for don't have internet access –
and won't ever have.
Currently, I don't have a 11-machine for building pkg(8) handy.
How Do I get pkg(8) the official way (for machines without internet access)?
Are there official ftp servers available for manual downloading (I know
of pkgs SRV lookup method, but since I need to 'scp' packages from
arbitrary internet-connected clients, I can't utilize pkg(8) especially
in a situation like now, where I have not a single compatible
alternative client/host).

pkg(8) has biten my some dozend times since stable/10 due to it's ring
dependency :-( :-( :-(

Please, don't ship FreeBSD 11 without a full version of pkg(8) in the base!

Thanks,

-Harry

Yes, you should worry.

Normally we could use the dump_debug sysctls to help debug this - these
sysctls will dump the NVMe I/O submission and completion queues. But in
this case the LBA data is in the payload, not the NVMe submission entries,
so dump_debug will not help as much as dumping the NVMe DSM payload
directly.

Could you try the attached patch and send output after recreating your pool?

I think you are bitten by a bad swapoff logic. I made patch for it eons ego:

From my point of view swapping off from non-late swap devices is just a

Swapoff ENOMEM means that there is too much anonymous memory allocated
for it to be fit into RAM.

E.g. if you have tmpfs or md(4) swap backed disks which consume too
much space, you will get this error. Another possibility is some
process which is still alive at the swapoff point, consuming enough
anon memory.

swapoff: Cannot allocate memory FreeBSD 11 Beta2

2016-07-28 Thread Johan Hendriks
Hello all.

Lately I noticed above (error) when I reboot machine.

It looks like this.

Stopping cron.
Waiting for PIDS: 1183
swapoff: /dev/gpt/swap-9M286954: Cannot allocate memory
stopping zfsd.
Waiti..

My swap space concists of two GPT swap partitions on the zfs mirror OS
disks, both 4GB each.
The machine has 4 GB mem.

This does not happen after normal use, but if i wait a day, do a
buildworld then the swapoff error shows.

content off /etc/fstab

/dev/gpt/swap-Z3TX7DTA none swapsw 0 0
/dev/gpt/swap-9M286954 none swapsw 0 0

regards

Johan

Intel NVMe troubles?

2016-07-28 Thread Borja Marcos
Hi :)

Still experimenting with NVMe drives and FreeBSD, and I have ran into problems,
I think.

I´ve got a server with 10 Intel DC P3500 NVMe drives. Right now, running
11-BETA2.

I have updated the firmware in the drives to the latest version (8DV10174)
using the Data Center Tools.
And I’ve formatted them for 4 KB blocks (LBA format #3)

nvmecontrol identify nvme0ns1
Size (in LBAs): 488378646 (465M)
Capacity (in LBAs): 488378646 (465M)
Utilization (in LBAs): 488378646 (465M)
Thin Provisioning: Not Supported
Number of LBA Formats: 7
Current LBA Format: LBA Format #03
LBA Format #00: Data Size: 512 Metadata Size: 0
LBA Format #01: Data Size: 512 Metadata Size: 8
LBA Format #02: Data Size: 512 Metadata Size:16
LBA Format #03: Data Size: 4096 Metadata Size: 0
LBA Format #04: Data Size: 4096 Metadata Size: 8
LBA Format #05: Data Size: 4096 Metadata Size:64
LBA Format #06: Data Size: 4096 Metadata Size: 128

ZFS properly detects the 4 KB block size and sets the correct ashift (12). But
I’ve found these error messages
generated while I created a pool (zpool create tank raidz2 /dev/nvd[0-8] spare
/dev/nvd9)

And the same for the rest of the drives [0-9].

Should I worry?

Thanks!

Borja.
