It seems, FreeBSD 9.0-RELEASE can install as VirtualBox-4.0.10 Guest using SAS-emulated disk controller only. In IDE or SATA mode it hangs. FWIW, 9.0-RELEASE i386 installed fine on Virtualbox 4.1.8 hosted on a MacBook Pro: FreeBSD Ports collection has 4.0.14 only. Eugene Grosbein
