I'm still updating our driver to pull in changes from dragonflybsd.
We're a bit behind. Once that's done, I'll email out to
freebsd-wireless@ for some more testing.
Hopefully the 8xxx series stuff will work better once the changes are in!

To make long story short: the possible cause of this weird behavior is
missing implementation of ic_getradiocaps 'method(?)' within iwi(4) driver.
The workaround is attached ( comment #2 ),
