Re: Getting started with FreeBSD 8.0 RC2 on Xen
Ok, So I got FreeBSD 7.2 running in a VM without any difficulties. So I'm trying to upgrade to current from there. I csup'd my /usr/src/ directory and was able to make buildworld with you any problems. I was reading here: http://wiki.freebsd.org/AdrianChadd/XenHackery about building the kernel for Xen with KERNCONF=XEN: #make buildkernel KERNCONF=XEN ERROR: Missing kernel configuration file(s) (XEN). *** Error code 1 Stop in /usr/src. *** Error code 1 Any reason why the kernel configuration file for XEN is missing or where I can get it? I see a config here: http://www.mavetju.org/mail/view_message.php?list=freebsd-xenid=2875208 is that the one that should be used? Thanks, Allan Feid Unix Administrator B.S. No that isn't working. Neither are the shutdown button or the suspend button. That's all provided by the xen tools daemon, which is not available for FreeBSD AFAIK. I wish it was, though, because the live migration is more than just nice to have. Getting started with FreeBSD 8.0 RC2 on Xen
Hello, I would like to properly run FreeBSD 8 on my installation of Xen. I've got an AMD X2 processor and 8GB of ram on my host system. It's running OpenSolaris xVM svn_124. Xen information: Using library: libvir 0.6.0 Using API: Xen 3.0.1 Running hypervisor: Xen 3.3 I'm using ZFS zvol's for the disk, and I get the following error during the install: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/123316/err.png (sorry for the link, not sure if attachments are allowed here) I have not tried installing from 7.2 just yet, but will be doing so soon. For the settings, this is what I used to install: virt-install --name frisbee --ram 512 --vnc --os-type=unix --os-variant=freebsd7 --network bridge=dev0 --file /dev/zvol/dsk/tank/guests/dom3/disk0 --cdrom /tank/install/ISOs/8.0-RC2-amd64-dvd1.iso --hvm Allan Feid Unix Administrator B.S. The easiest way to get that and a matching Dom0 is installing Debian/unstable.
