Re: Kip Macy, are you out there?

2010-08-26 Thread Adrian Chadd
Hi,

I can do you up a build of Kip's 7.x/Xen branch if you'd like.

I don't think it'll run in its current state on EC2 unless you've
updated the version of Xen on the cluster.

Kip, this is Miles from Amazon. We're interested in running FreeBSD on EC2.
Any way we could take a peek at this?

Adrian, thanks, that would be great!
I spoke with Colin P. and he suggested that running in HVM would work better..
Would that be supported by the same build (sorry if my terminology is messed
up).

Not from the same kernel. If you guys want to roll HVM, then RELENG_8
(ie, 8-STABLE) should be better. PVM support in 8 and -head needs a
lot of attention; but various reports indicate HVM will run fine.

Let me know what you'd like and I'll see what I can upload.

Re: Kip Macy, are you out there?

2010-08-26 Thread Michael MacLeod
I've had a decent amount of success running the XENHVM kernel, but in a 4.x Xen
environment. If it can be made to work on EC2 though, then that would be worth
the attention. If the XENHVM kernel won't run well on EC2 though, I've run
FreeBSD in HVM mode with the GENERIC kernel through many FreeBSD and Xen
versions in various combinations and always found it stable.
