I were just logging back in to server that was about to shut down due to
quitidle. Server closed down while I were typing my password.

I think server should not shut down due to lack of players when one is
clearly coming back.

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #21506] Huge amount of packet data with log level verbose

2014-01-18 Thread Marko Lindqvist
URL:
  http://gna.org/bugs/?21506

Summary: Huge amount of packet data with log level verbose
 Project: Freeciv
Submitted by: cazfi
Submitted on: Sat 18 Jan 2014 12:10:09 PM EET
Category: general
Severity: 3 - Normal
Priority: 5 - Normal
  Status: Ready For Test
 Assigned to: None
Originator Email:
 Open/Closed: Open
 Release:
 Discussion Lock: Any
Operating System: None
 Planned Release: 2.3.5, 2.4.2, 2.5.0, 2.6.0

___

Details:

Log level verbose logs each *field* of the network packets sent or received.
That certainly belongs to debug level, with associated detailed control of
which parts of the code may write to the logfiles.

Fix attached

Current logging level was set in bug #19004, but I assume the bulk of actual
logging has been added later, as before that change the level was *normal*,
i.e., even higher than current verbose.

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #21239] Optional rule: Penalty to attack due to ZoC

2014-01-18 Thread anonymous
Follow-up Comment #10, bug #21239 (project freeciv):

I like the suggestions, on note on the possiblity to have some units break
throught lines without penalty. There can always be flag allowing to ignore
ZoC attack penalty.

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #21507] Finer controll of ZoC

 Release: 2.4.1

Details:

ZoC are currently very coarse. Havent checked if one could add them on naval
or air units, and I think there should be such ability if there aren't, but I
digress. Main point, you can have on unit:
no ZoC - unit has no ZoC and ZoC does not affect him (naval, air mostly)
ignore ZoC - unit has ZoC, but ignores ZoC of others (diplomat, spy,
explorer)
normal ZoC - has ZoC, respects ZoC of others, standart

However, there is no flag for:
has no ZoC - does not create ZoC, respects ZoC of others (imo very suitable
for most non military units)

I find it very annoying how accidentaly or not your early settlers can be
pined down by exploerer. I see no reason why workers, settlers and exploerers
should have ZoC, but nether any reason why they should ignore it when it comes
from military units. Any way even if it's not in default ruleset such options
should definetly be made availabe.

Details:

Currently missiles can fly between cities/bases/subs/carriers, that just makes
no sense. Flying missile can't land and be loaded on sub. Though I do not
oppose for such situation on default ruleset, but I think it should be
possible to have units with fuel, that can not refuel ever. So that if missile
moves it ether dies from running out of fuel or attacks something, same for
nukes. Civ 3 had icbms which simply did not move at all, you only had to
choose destination square. I like movement better, but as I said missiles
loading into subs bays make little sense.

This has now been fixed in metaserver repository.
There's also maintenance branch created for version that still uses ext/mysql

Noticed recently on trunk, haven't checked more stable branches:

When adding a settler to an existing city (or building a city with 2 settlers
simultaneously), the second citizen starts out being an entertainer, even the
city will starve as a result and could avoid this by working a free tile.
I'd expect them to be deployed as a worker.

Can you give a bit more detail? Which client, for instance?

When I test with the 2.4.0 release and the Gtk2 client, if I have the cities
report (F4) up when someone else takes over one of my cities (not destroying
it), the lost city is correctly removed from the cities report.

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #19589] New tech upkeep style

2014-01-18 Thread Marko Lindqvist
Follow-up Comment #9, bug #19589 (project freeciv):

While upkeep was multiplied by (1 + number of cities) to give some upkeep even
for those with no cities, free upkeep was given from cities only, meaning
extra upkeep to pay for for the cities, a lot when number of cities is low (
extra upkeep / number of cities high ). Attached version adds that same + 1
to free upkeep multiplier (actually: makes whole multiplier to apply to
(upkeep - free))
