Update of bug #21086 (project freeciv):

Follow-up Comment #1:

New patches for trunk/S2_5/S2_4 rebased to apply on top of cazfi's fix for bug
#21099. (S2_3 will continue to use file #18811.)

Note that this swaps the order of game_init() and settings_init() relative to
bug #21099; I think this is the right way round (and worked in my testing).

Follow-up Comment #5:

Since cazfi's fixed the assertion failures in bug #21099, I'm repurposing this
bug to fix the other issues with server option documentation (even though
that's not what was originally reported).

To the original reporter: this sort of technical chatter is necessary to get
bugs fixed, and not really directed at you. I think you can remove yourself
from the bug CC list if you don't want it.
The issue you reported will end up fixed (in 2.4.1, probably), but see this
forum post http://forum.freeciv.org/f/viewtopic.php?f=9t=131p=673#p673 for
why freeciv-manual.exe may disappoint you, even when it's working as designed.

[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #4159] Add Unaccessible terrain to supplied rulesets

2013-09-08 Thread Marko Lindqvist
Update of patch #4159 (project freeciv):

Status: In Progress = Ready For Test

___

Follow-up Comment #1:

Add Unaccessible terrain to classic, multiplayer, experimental, civ2civ3,
and alien rulesets. I don't see how including these to civ1/civ2 rulesets
would hurt the compatibility, but left them out anyway.
Note that alien ruleset has Tile_Workable effects defined so that new
terrain would get the effect only if explicitly added - so no changes to
alien/effects.ruleset.

[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #4159] Add Unaccessible terrain to supplied rulesets

2013-09-08 Thread Jacob Nevins
Follow-up Comment #2, patch #4159 (project freeciv):

Neat idea.

As regards appearance, how about making it entirely black with a hard edge,
like the edge of the map is currently? So the end appearance is that of a
non-rectangular map.

There would however be subtle UI differences between off-the-map and
Unaccessible terrain -- it would get an overlay as if show native tiles was
enabled, for instance. That can't be solved without code changes. Without
that, perhaps it's best if it looks distinct from off-the-map.

(Also, it occurs to me that Inaccessible would be a more idiomatic English
name.)

[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #4155] Extra name in tile info

2013-09-08 Thread Marko Lindqvist
Follow-up Comment #1, patch #4155 (project freeciv):

- While UI knew Huts as Minor Tribe Village, special name used in savegame
format has been Hut. So, while renaming the extra to Minor Tribe Village,
keep rule_name as Hut.
I didn't set rule_name for alien ruleset Space Capsule, arguing that alien
ruleset makes its debut as part of freeciv distribution on 2.6, and thus it
does not need to be backward compatible.

does Local functions should always be declared as static in the code style
also include the implicit declaration in the definition?

[Freeciv-Dev] [task #7729] Windows packages for 2.4.0-RC2

2013-09-08 Thread Christian Prochaska
Follow-up Comment #3, task #7729 (project freeciv):

Another optional change to workflow: do you get map files or
debug symbols or something out of your build process?
If so, we should arrange to get them uploaded somewhere where
 Freeciv developers can see them.
Whenever we get a Windows-specific crash reported, we Unix-y
developers are pretty much in the dark, as we don't have the
debug tools. Being able to at least translate a program
counter like 0x7c92168b into a source file/line might give us
 a bit of a clue.
If there are any other build entrails that can be combined
with Windows post-mortem debug dumps to get stack backtraces
and the like, all the better.

The binaries contain debug symbols and in case of a crash a backtrace gets
saved in 'freeciv-server.RPT' or 'freeciv-gtk2.RPT' in the installation
directory already. For some reason the source file/line information is missing
in the client report, though. Even 'objdump -dSl' does not show it for the
client, but GDB does. So, we'd need at least the output of 'nm' or perhaps
'objdump -d' for the client to interpret the backtrace addresses. And somehow
communicate to the users to send the report files together with their bug
reports.

Details:

Add event type icons to messagewindow. This patch handles gtk3-client only.

I found that some artist had added three event icons to small.png already
(probably in the ancient times when all the initial icons were added). I've
used those for all the events in this patch, but before 2.6.0 release there
should be better ones.

[Freeciv-Dev] [task #7729] Windows packages for 2.4.0-RC2

2013-09-08 Thread Jacob Nevins
Follow-up Comment #4, task #7729 (project freeciv):

I've announced the Windows packages despite this not being closed, as they
seemed to be up and I'm unlikely to have time tomorrow. Hope that wasn't
premature in some way.

The binaries contain debug symbols and in case of a crash a
backtrace gets saved in 'freeciv-server.RPT' or
'freeciv-gtk2.RPT' in the installation directory already.
  [...]
For some reason the source file/line information is missing in
the client report, though. Even 'objdump -dSl' does not show
it for the client, but GDB does.
Aha, so perhaps no extra files for us to keep around.
I wonder if a MinGW cross-compiler gdb would work for me to access this stuff?
Hm.
