Details:

In bug #24745 Frank wrote:
> In 2.5 establishing a trade route is easy, there's a popup asking me if I
want to do that. In 2.6 I get no question (remaining move points after airlift
at 0), but I can activate the airlifted freight and enter "r" manually to get
a trade route.

I have now verified that this happens with the popup_actor_arrival client
setting enabled.

Some improvements I thought of to the tutorial scenario after playing through
it:
* Building Settlers and limits on doing so
** city_growth: "may build settlers" => "may complete building settlers"
** unit_cant_be_built: should note that nothing is lost as a result of not
being able to build settlers
** city_built: first two could possibly note that the suggestion of settlers
won't be fulfilled before the city grows, but that's fine
* Hut explanation could be given when a unit moves next to a hut, rather than
waiting until the player has been brave enough to move onto it.
** Message could also identify the unit which has found the hut.

Details:

(This is going to be a rubbish bug report. Sorry.)

Using the S2_5 r32261 Windows installer

and playing through the tutorial, I got myself into a state where numeric
keypad keys and (I think) 'W' weren't causing the selected unit to do
anything. I found it a bit hard to get out of this state, and I'm not sure how
I achieved it in the end.

Possibly-relevant things:
* At some point I had entered something (a server command) in the chatline and
then pressed 'Tab' to take focus away from the chatline. I think this had
focused one of the chatline/messages controls and I'd done something about
that.
* IIRC my flailing to try and get out of this included clicking on the unit to
try to give it / the map focus (which usually helps) but it didn't help.

I haven't managed to work out exactly I got into this state.

Using S2_5 r32261 Windows installers

Starting tutorial, playing a few turns, quit client
* freeciv-server hung around in Task Manager longer than freeciv-qt
* a quitidle savefile was written
Starting client, "Load game", don't actually load any game, then quit client
* a quitidle savefile was written

This doesn't seem to happen with the same revision of Gtk2 and Gtk3 clients.

Would be nice to fix this for 2.5.5, since otherwise I suspect it'll be a
regression.

Currently, the tutorial contains text about the UI that is not quite right for
all clients. It's generally right about Gtk and not about Qt (and probably
hopeless for SDL).

If the Lua script had access to the gui_type, it could adapt its text.

Clients already send their gui_type to the server in PACKET_CLIENT_INFO, but
the server doesn't store it.

Should presumably be made available through Lua Connection object.

In case anyone thinks of linking this to bug #24867 (which mentions
checkboxes): my backup history indicates that at no point did I have the
package 'gtk3-engines-xfce' installed.

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #24867] GTK3 client unusable under Debian Jessie w/ XFCE4 with 'gtk3-engines-xfce' installed

2016-07-24 Thread Jacob Nevins
Update of bug #24867 (project freeciv):

Summary: GTK3 client unusuable under Debian Jessie w/ XFCE4
=> GTK3 client unusable under Debian Jessie w/ XFCE4 with 'gtk3-engines-xfce'
installed

___

Follow-up Comment #2:

I'm using Xubuntu 14.04 (so probably upstream versions of everything about a
year older than Jessie). I didn't have the gtk3-engines-xfce package installed
to start with. Installing it has not made my 2.5 svn Gtk3 client with the
default theme ("Freeciv") noticeably worse.

Can you attach some screenshots of how it looks for you with and without
gtk3-engines-xfce?

This sounds like gtk3-engines-xfce in the stable version of Debian makes
everything worse, and just hits us a little harder than most. I'm not sure
what we can do about it, other than bring it to the Debian Freeciv
maintainer's attention (we have been discussing deploying Gtk3).

[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #7499] Drop WIN32_NATIVE

2016-07-24 Thread Marko Lindqvist
URL:

 Summary: Drop WIN32_NATIVE
 Project: Freeciv
Submitted by: cazfi
Submitted on: Sun 24 Jul 2016 01:27:43 PM EEST
Category: bootstrap
Priority: 5 - Normal
  Status: None
 Privacy: Public
 Assigned to: None
Originator Email:
 Open/Closed: Open
 Discussion Lock: Any
 Planned Release: 3.1.0
 Contains string changes: None

___

Details:

We set WIN32_NATIVE in addition to FREECIV_MSWINDOWS for backward
compatibility reasons, but no freeciv code uses it any more. Drop it from 3.1.
In 3.0 we can still keep it for the benefit of forks and custom AI modules.

With. Within the added function calls, to be precise.

Bug #24796 might not even exist as long as this patch is not applied.

This is currently targeted at 2.5.5, but no current proposed patch.

I'm not treating it as a blocker. I don't expect to have time to look into it
myself before 2.5.5 release.

[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #7498] Message Window to optionally show messages from previous turn too

2016-07-24 Thread Marko Lindqvist
URL:

Summary: Message Window to optionally show messages from
previous turn too
 Project: Freeciv
Submitted by: cazfi
Submitted on: Sun 24 Jul 2016 10:53:54 AM EEST
Category: client
Priority: 5 - Normal
  Status: Ready For Test

 Planned Release: 3.0.0
 Contains string changes: None

Details:

Add client option for message window to show messages from the previous turn
too. It defaults to 'enabled' as the old behavior is rather annoying in long
turn multiplayer games where the opponents actions can get unnoticed if done
between last time I check messages for the turn and turn change.

In fact, while we can't have new client option in S2_6, I'm somewhat inclined
to port this to S2_6 as unconditional behavior change.
