Follow-up Comment #2, task #7986 (project freeciv):

Bug #24823 is said to be a regression since 2.5.4, so needs at least some
actions before 2.5.5 release. If nothing else works, we need to revert
something that brought in the regression.

Details:

This ticket is for keeping track of 2.5.5 blockers, and "very much wanted"
fixes.

At the time 2.5.4 was released, for the 2.5.5 development gtk3 theme warnings
were considered the main issue. Now I'm not so sure if we really can do
anything to those. We're committed to keep compatibility with oldish gtk3
versions, so we can't update the default theme to something that does not work
on them.

There's two new features that I'd still want to have in S2_5 for better
supporting certain use-cases. Both of them have been implemented partially
already.

1) persistent metaconnection. patch #7300 is first of the series, but I'd want
to have commandline support too

2) Possibility to start local game from client gui as observer when there's no
human players at all
