Follow-up Comment #15, patch #1255 (project freeciv): It looks nice. Don't forget it was located to the east in the early days, but its location moved as the east became better known. ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/patch/?1255 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

Follow-up Comment #14, patch #1255 (project freeciv): I assumed the cross is the wooden cross and the staffs bishop's staffs so I made them brown and gold respectively. I'll also add a line to the legend that Prester John's kingdom was believed to be at the other side of the Muslim world, which was one of the reason many Europeans went looking for him (to attack the Muslims from two sides and capture Jerusalem). Follow-up Comment #11, patch #1255 (project freeciv): Just a plain brown cross on the white background would probably work, but I'm quite open to suggestions, especially ones accompanied by an image... ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/patch/?1255 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

Follow-up Comment #8, patch #1255 (project freeciv): I'm sure I've mentioned how much I suck at creating images... I used the Maltese cross as the base: Maltese cross by AnonMoos, public domain (Wikipedia) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Maltese-Cross-Heraldry.svg Then I applied a 'wood' effect to the cross because a wooden cross (similar to the Maltese cross) is what they were supposed to have carried into battle. Funny thing is, I thought I had done it in Inkscape, as that's the only SVG editor I have installed. ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/patch/?1255 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

Follow-up Comment #5, patch #1255 (project freeciv): There seems to be something wrong with the flag. Every time I try to turn it into png it makes the white background black for the flag and transparent for the shield. That even happens when I replace the background with another color. ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/patch/?1255 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

Follow-up Comment #7, patch #1255 (project freeciv): Ann, if you drew this image yourself (the patch does not include credits in flags.spec) do you remember if you used any special effects or features? The cross has an unusual texture that I don't think I've seen in any other Freeciv flag. =) ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/patch/?1255 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

Follow-up Comment #4, patch #1255 (project freeciv): That is a good idea. I looked at the map and wrote down cities as best as I could (with the resolution it is sometimes difficult to do this accurately) and added them to the ruleset. There should be no shortage of cities now. Follow-up Comment #1, patch #1255 (project freeciv): Where does this nation come from, and is it subject for copyright restrictions? ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/patch/?1255 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev
[Freeciv-Dev] [patch #1255] Kingdom of Prester John (fictional nation)
Follow-up Comment #2, patch #1255 (project freeciv): The nation comes from medieval legend. It appears for example in John Mandeville (14th century), Otto of Freising (12th century) and the Letter of Prester John (12th century). From roughly the 12th until the 17th century people believed that this country existed, although its location kept shifting as the world became better known. Although more modern authors have written about Prester John, the basis for the legend predates copyright law and details from modern works were not included. ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/patch/?1255 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev
