Follow-up Comment #6:

It should now be possible to prevent building of Railroad on a terrain where
Road building in general is possible in TRUNK by
1) Defining user terrain flag
2) Giving that flag to all terrains where Railroad can be built
3) Make Railroad building require that flag.

Follow-up Comment #4, patch #2422 (project freeciv):

 - It should be checked that (default) ai really uses this
 modified code and not just assume that it can always build
 railroad on road tile.

In settler_evaluate_improvements() advisors code assumes that building a road
has benefit of allowing railroad building.

Follow-up Comment #2, patch #2422 (project freeciv):

Note that roads code rewrite (patch #2522) will likely make this patch
redundant. This patch has been implemented on top of current roads code, and
same feature has to be implemented separately for new roads system.
Regardless I would go forward with this patch. It will bring new feature
available *now* with very simple code change. There's no need to wait for new
roads system being implemented. New road system won't be here overnight. It
might be that this feature wouldn't make it to 2.4 if we rely on new roads
system implementation.

Good idea.

Just two things are needed before this can be committed

- Patch should include documentation for this rail_time special value in
data/*/terrain.ruleset
- It should be checked that (default) ai really uses this modified code and
not just assume that it can always build railroad on road tile. Have you done
that already, or can you do it?


I notice that your patch is against freeciv 2.2.4. Could you provide your
patches against current freeciv trunk (latest development version) as that's
where they will be committed?

Details:

Using 'rail_time = 0' in 'terrain.ruleset' file will prevent from building
railroad on terrain type, regardless of 'road_time' settings for this
terrain.

This allows for creating terrain types with only road buildable.
