[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #18467] Client fails to get hack access to spawned server
Follow-up Comment #6, bug #18467 (project freeciv): Fortunately for that user, the server apparently is *not* shut down (bug 2?) Follow-up Comment #2, bug #18467 (project freeciv): I'm also having this problem, but running as Administrator does not solve it. I'm using FreeCiv 2.3.0 on Windows XP Pro, SP3. %PATH% C:HomeAdministrator, with full administrative rights to the entire directory. In addition to the error messages in the description, I get this when I try to save game settings using the FreeCiv client: Save failed, cannot write to file C:HomeAdministrator/.freeciv-client-rc-2.3 ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/bugs/?18467 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

Follow-up Comment #3, bug #18467 (project freeciv): If it helps, saving worked correctly in 2.1.8... ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/bugs/?18467 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

Follow-up Comment #4, bug #18467 (project freeciv): Save failed, cannot write to file C:HomeAdministrator/.freeciv-client-rc-2.3 I just noticed it autosaves correctly into C:HomeAdministrator/.freeciv/saves/. Upon trying to load one of these saves I got an error message: /load: Name C:HomeAdministrator.freecivsavesfreeciv-T0147-Y00940-auto.sav.bz2 disallowed for security reasons. /vote: Your new vote (load C:HomeAdministrator.freecivsavesfreeciv-T0147-Y00940-auto.sav.bz2) was not legal or was not recognized. ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/bugs/?18467 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev

Follow-up Comment #1, bug #18467 (project freeciv): Additional info from thread: it works for this person if they install Freeciv as Administrator, but not if they don't. ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/bugs/?18467 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev
[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #18467] Client fails to get hack access to spawned server
URL: http://gna.org/bugs/?18467 Summary: Client fails to get hack access to spawned server Project: Freeciv Submitted by: jtn Submitted on: Sun Aug 7 20:49:05 2011 Category: None Severity: 4 - Important Priority: 5 - Normal Status: None Assigned to: None Originator Email: Open/Closed: Open Release: 2.2.4 Discussion Lock: Any Operating System: Microsoft Windows Planned Release: ___ Details: Reported on the wikia forum http://freeciv.wikia.com/wiki/Forum:Can%27t_save_the_game: In single-player mode, one Windows user is getting the message Failed to obtain the required access level to take control of the server. The server will now be shutdown. Clearly this shouldn't happen (bug 1). Fortunately for that user, the server apparently is *not* shut down (bug 2?), and they can carry on playing fine -- but they cannot save games (or do anything else requiring privilege -- they can change server settings only by dint of being the only player and winning votes, for instance). This is their log (from the wiki page): Freeciv is free software and you are welcome to distribute copies of it under certain conditions; See the Copying item on the Help menu. Now ... Go give 'em hell! Starting server... Welcome to the Freeciv version 2.2.4 Server at port 5556. You are logged in as 'xxx' connected to xxx. Failed to obtain the required access level to take control of the server. The server will now be shutdown. New vote (number 1) by xxx: set topology 5 (needs 51% in favor). Vote 1 set topology 5 is passed 1 to 0 with 0 abstentions and 0 who did not vote. Vote 1: xxx voted yes. (server prompt): 'set topology 5' Option: topology has been set to 5. /quit: You are not allowed to use this command. This is with 2.2.4, but I can't think of anything we've fixed since then that might fix this. ___ Reply to this item at: http://gna.org/bugs/?18467 ___ Message sent via/by Gna! http://gna.org/ ___ Freeciv-dev mailing list Freeciv-dev@gna.org https://mail.gna.org/listinfo/freeciv-dev
