Tested now with client 2.5.6: occurs the same, client crashes with
"Segmentation fault (core dumped)"

[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #25392] GTK2 Client crashes after city tab is detached and F4 pressed

2016-12-18 Thread Christian Knoke
Follow-up Comment #1, bug #25392 (project freeciv):

See:

bug #23804 switching tabs in gtk3 client buglet
bug #21570 GUI swallows one click from within science window

Can you please tell, which Ubuntu and GTK2 version you use, exactly?

Right now, in 2.4.3 GTK3 on Debian Jessie, the first click on a tab is not
swallowed, on my machine. I don't see the F4 crash, either.

The double click making tab a separate window is, AFAIR, a feature, but maybe
not of good use. Maybe on Smartphones? There is no way to "retab" the window.
In XFCE4 I have the "windows rollup" arrow down button, you can switch between
windows with that and have a partial use of this function.

If you click twice while you fear the first click is swallowed, you sometimes
get an unwanted double click, obviously.

If I close the windowed city tab, I always end up in the F9 message window,
while being started from the map.

Christian

Details:

I use Ubuntu Linux and I compile freeciv myself.
I use GTK2 client.

Well, I have reported a bug some days ago:
bug #25372: User needs to click twice to change tabs

The awful thing is that that bug isn't the only one to annoy me, related to
that behaviour.

Many times, as I have to click twice over tab label to change tabs, sometimes
the tab ends up detached from main window. I mean: the tab turns into a
floating window, with its own border and window controls.

This floating window has only two buttons to control the window: close and
maximize. So, there is no way to make that floating window to become a tab
again. So, we have to close that window.

Now let's talk about CITY TAB (usually viewed by pressing F4).
If the city tab has been already shown once, and I'm in map view, and I want
to view the city tab, I click the city tab label. But, as I reported in the
bug #25372, sometimes I have to click twice. And sometimes when I click twice,
the city tab gets detached and turns into a window. But this window is
annoying, as it keeps the focus of freeciv, so to turn view back to map, I
have to close that window. So do I, I close it. But then again I want to see
the city tabs, then I press F4 and client crashes.

In fact, allowing the city tab detach from main window is, by itself, a design
flaw. Very annoying.
