Follow-up Comment #1, patch #3470 (project freeciv):

Nitpick: Could you avoid "./configure", i.e., giving example of running
configure in srcdir. While we are not even recommending (some gnu packages
even force) use of separate builddir(s), could we at least not to recommend
the opposite.

Details:

Attached patch describes the new version notification mechanism, and offers
the possibility to third parties.

I'm in two minds about this; the people who can update the metaserver are busy
enough as it is; but I want it written down somewhere in case e.g. a new Mac
volunteer comes out of the woodwork.
