opengem is broken as in doesn't work except for one particular version, either
it was 5 or 6, 5 I think it was. it has a limited number of applications, and
it can run dos programs in sort of a shell. nothing compatible with any windows
programs you find on the market today of course, because
I seem to remember being told that with the interrupt chip on x86, one of
those interrupts or the mask was flaky/trigger happy.

I suspect something is dropping a byte or something is too sluggish to snap to
attention when data is available on the serial line. is this a polling driver,
or interrupt-driven? how are the interrupt masks?

well, I enjoy multitasking. I want to make all the efficient use of the cpu
cycles as I can.
I prefer not to let it sit idling and just using up power (though I still do

rawrite-compatible floppy image download? there are nee
