[Freedos-user] Lynx for Dos

2016-03-01 Thread Dan Schmidt
I was wondering if anybody else tried out the new lynx port:

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/comp.os.msdos.djgpp/flY264GkHV8

It's kind of a pain to get all the mods & CA cert, but SSL works properly
with said CA cert providing warning of invalid site certificates. With
"nopause" and a couple other tweaks, it is extremely fast. I can boot &
get the weather faster on my twenty year old laptop than my two year old
Chromebook! IOGEAR Wifi adapter & some Velcro even gives me wireless,
albeit a bit ugly.

You are too diplomatic!

"Please consider sending only plain text ..."
really should be
"Please send only plain text ..."

HTML can be useful in the case of special effects that can't be rendered in
plain text, but is otherwise just an annoyance.

I also notice excessive indiscriminate quoting in some messages, where the
entire message is quoted including the list footers and ads, multiple times.

This is very inelegant to say the least.

Tom

It's usually not worth the cost to bother compiling a .BAT (otherwise
just use a full programming language like Turbo Pascal or OpenWatcom C
or whatnot). While .BAT is weak and could be improved, part of the
convenience is the easy scripting.

Having said that, the only one I remember offhand (although I don't
remember ever actively using it) is Wiering's BATCHCOM ("freeware", no
sources):

http://www.wieringsoftware.nl/utils/index.php?L=E&Title=BATCHCOM&DocFile=batchcom.txt

Old Simtel.net archives probably have others, but I don't remember
exactly. Let me do a quick check

http://www.lanet.lv/simtel.net/msdos/batchutl.html

No idea how well any of them works, though.

Do we have access to any "Free" batch file compilers like BUILDER or like
Seaware's EBL program?
