[Freedos-user] Some app functions don't work

2017-03-04 Thread Ray Davison
I have an accounting app from the early 90s. I first ran it under DRDOS
and then FreeDOS for about a decade. I have looked at many other
accounting apps but have not found anything that works better for me.

The primary functions have always worked well. However, a couple years
ago the archive function refused to do anything. I ran it under WXP and
archive worked. Recently I needed to restore the data base from backup.
That required a "Reprocess data". That did nothing. I ran it under
WXP and the function worked.

The first case was FreeDOS 1.0. The second is FreeDOS 1.1
"out-of-the-box", from the top line of the menu.

Anything I should look at?

Ray

[Freedos-user] Status of Windows for Workgroups 3.11 in FreeDOS?

2017-03-04 Thread Eric Auer

Hi, forwarding a question from SF user banana29j. I myself
do not have Windows for Workgroups, so my 2006 comment was
about something said on the list back then. Maybe somebody
who does have that version of Windows can comment about the
status with 2017ish FreeDOS kernels? Of course other driver
issues also matter - for example 386enh mode take-over via
GEMMIS is not supported by open source EMM386 alternatives,
so WfW 3.11 will only work with suitable HIMEM alternatives
without EMM386. Also, it will only work if a small enough
amount of RAM is present: Windows gets confused otherwise.

Thanks for commenting! Regards, Eric
