The full title is on the top line... along with the version number. :-)
The title is derived from its original purpose. To modify the packages that are
installed by the installer when using advanced mode. However, it later seemed
like a great idea to make it function like a package manager and install/remove
packages.

All I the issues you described, Point to the same single cause. The CD driver
is not working with your drive in it’s default configuration. FDIMPLES would
only see the preinstalled packages on the Live portion of the LiveCD. The
installer would stop not finding the packages.
All of the additional packages are located outside the Live portion of the CD
in a normal CD filesystem.

The networking stuff on the Live CD only starts automatically when the CD is
booted inside VMware or VirtualBox. Otherwise, you need to manually start it.

It does not do that.

They are on a different portion of the CD. The Live portion on LiveCD2 is
basically a preinstalled hard disk image that is loaded into RAM and then
emulates a hard drive. It is a very basic installation. The CD data filesystem
contains all the packages for installing FreeDOS or the hundreds of extras.
