interested in spell check, as I'll do that on the editing machine, so

What do *you* really need from FreeDOS to run WP?
Probably just the BASE packages.
Or maybe the kernel + FreeCOM only.
You may also want to look at SvarDOS' floppy images:
FreeDOS Edit, SETEdit, vi, pico. All great basic DoS text editors.

My fav is the internal editor in File Wizard :)
