In Bochs you are correct, as Scandisk gave me no errors anymore.
I hope I did not encounter a strange Vmware problem.
however I did have to test a smaller FAT32 disk - 650MB.
I'll send my logfiles to Eric.

Precisely as you said with MS-DOS and FreeDOS format:
NDD report is a little more comprehensive and here it is
After FORMAT C: I copied a few files and directories to the drive
Crossed checked with Scandisk and NDD

Test description follows:
FreeDOS FORMAT drive C: 2GB FAT32
Booted with MS-DOS disk and installed Windows 98SE on C:
Installation when perfect and passed the MS-DOS SCANDISK checks
After Windows installed, ran Windows version of SCANDISK and DEFRAG.
No problems - no errors.

FreeDOS FORMAT 0.91p, in Windows DOS, and ask Windows SCANDISK for an
