Re: [Freedos-user] how to create a large freedos image

2010-02-08 Thread Kallol Biswas
Hello,
I am not too familiar with DOS or FreeDos.

Can we run fdisk on a file? Don't we need a block device? The fdisk
should be from freedos, right?

Re: [Freedos-user] how to create a large freedos image

2010-02-08 Thread Geraldo Netto
Hi,

both qemu and bochs have such 'image creation tool'
on bochs they call bximage.exe
on qemu they call qemu-img.exe
so, you can use any of those tools to create a 'raw image'
after that, you'll configure your virtual machine to use this
raw image and then you can install any operating system
so, after creating your raw image you can run fdisk inside
your vm...

hope it helps,

Can we run fdisk on a file?

I don't know ... possibly not directly ...

Don't we need a block device?

Maybe rather a physical disk ?

The fdisk should be from freedos, right?

YES.

But it's pointless: FDISK will run inside BOCHS and think to access a
physical disk, and BOCHS will redirect it to a file.

There could/should be better ways, but no DOS-based solution AFAIK is
ready to use now ...

[Freedos-user] how to create a large freedos image

2010-02-02 Thread Kallol Biswas
Hi,
We need to create a large (16MB) freedos boot image that can be
used with grub.
Presently we use fdboot.img but it is too small for our application.

Any pointer on how to create a larger fdboot.img will be appreciated.
