 Sorry, I never was like nor wide use DN, and I not follow its heirs.
So, I not watch its status and evolution.

 About GPL: yes, this is nature of GPL - GPLed sources may be reused
only in case when derivative work is also free. You have rights not publish
changes, when you use derivative work for your own purposes, without
distribution for others. But if you distribute your program, it should be
distributed freely and with sources. If DN is under GPL and NDN not, then
this is license violation.

NDN's lead programmer is now Stefan Weber from Germany. You know him as
"ho1459" on my forum. Why not ask him? :-)

I have some questions: Do you know why NDN is closed source? I thought
